The Who’s Who in Dateville
Best Friend-My college best friend and “partner in crime”. He’s a source of both great and terrible memories. We had a tremulous and drama filled past but we’ve put it behind us and come out as good friends despite the odds. We still talk at least once a month on the phone and someday he’ll definitely be the uncle to my kids.
Birthday Twin- We share the exact same birthday, down to the year. We have shared some friends with benefits moments, and I really cared about him for a time. He wasn’t date material and he made me realize I was ready for something better.
Baker Chic- Baker Chic’s boyfriend, LAX Guy has been a good friend of Match’s since high school, and they even went to college together. BC and I started out as lukewarm acquaintances, then we got closer as time passed. After she broke up with LAX we stopped hanging out and I haven’t heard from her in almost a year. I’m not really missing out because she was kind of a wet blanket.
Brazil- Brazil and I have been friends since I was in college, and we met through Ex Best Friend. Her husband is Bearded Guy, and they have now have a baby. They are part of the group I hang out with, that includes Old Married Couple. Brazil is a very warm and loving person, who was the first to say that Match was the one. Things have changed a lot since Brazil had her baby, and we’re growing more and more distant.
Chandler-Part of our “group”, he used to be my fiance stand in when Match worked nights and his fiancee was in Scotland. He kept me company through a really rough year of Match and I working opposite schedules. He’s Match’s birthday twin and a great guy. Now married to Monica, one of my best friends. A total Chandler, he is the jokester and the life of the party. I’m so sad he’s moving to Scotland but so happy that he finally gets to live with his long distance love.
Couple Wife- I refer to her and her husband and Couple Friends and they recently had a baby, better known as Couple Baby. Couple Wife is a lot of fun, and I love that we’re hanging out more. She’s outspoken, funny, and we always have a good time hanging out.
Drama Chick- She was formerly known as Gym Buddy, but that fizzled because she hates to work out. As I got to know her, Drama Chick definitely fit. She’s a sweet girl, but has a lot of growing up to do. I more I got to know her, the more I realized she’s not someone I want to consider a friend.
French Guy- A random guy I met who took me out on an ok date. I was intrigued by him because he was foreign, but we didn’t spark.
Friend Zone- A great guy who I wish didn’t like me. He is roommates with Birthday Twin and a real sweetie. He pouted when I didn’t like him as more than a friend.
Geeky-A friend I met through Couple Wife. We’re still new friends and still learning about each other. We realized we have a lot of “Geeky” things in common, like loving Star Trek and Harry Potter. She’s a fun loving girl and always good for some girl talk.
Hooded Sweatshirt Guy- A nice guy who doesn’t have a clue about how to treat a lady. Wore the same sweatshirt every time I saw him. Perfect guy for a girl who’s just looking for a warm body to sit next to.
Mama Drama- We met online through blogging, and she was like the wise, older sister I never had. She listened to all of my dating stories, and gave me great advice. She helped me with this website, and it was her idea to start it.
Match Guy-My husband: We met through the online dating service Match.com. He’s funny, outgoing, and just as cute in real life as his pictures. I can’t tell you how happy this man makes me. He is my other half.
Monica-Another member of the “group”. One of my best friends and Chandler’s wife. She lives in Scotland during the year and we’ve only known each other a short while, but it feels like forever. She has been a great friend to me and we have so much in common it’s scary.
Old Married Couple-My good friends from college. We’re not as close as we used to be, but they are always supportive and good to me. We reconnect at least a couple times a year and I’m grateful for their friendship.
Personality Twin-She is my younger sister, or the younger version of myself. I adore this girl, and so happy we met. When she lived here she was always down to go out and flirt and meet guys with me. It’s too bad she moved away and we’ve grown apart.
Potential Guy- This guy had potential, but he never reached it. He is the king of a great date, but horrible with follow through.
Reality Check-Used to be my best friend who always told it like it is. She was honest, sometimes brutally, but I valued that about her. Then she stopped being honest with herself, and our friendship crumbled.
Tahoe Girl- A fun loving girl who is always happy and the ringleader of the “group”. She loves a good party and is almost always the host of our get togethers. She can flake out at times but she always means well. Nicknamed Tahoe Girl because she used to live in Tahoe with her longtime beau, but now they’re in San Francisco and just a quick train ride away.
Tahoe Guy-Tahoe Girl’s boyfriend and also a fun loving guy. Gets super goofy when drunk and has been known to “win” many a party. He hasn’t proposed to Tahoe Girl yet, even though they’ve been together 10 years. We know he will someday, and we know the wedding will be epic.
The Enabler- My party buddy who is always hooking me up with his friends. He’s always encouraging me to do the wrong thing. He is the devil on my shoulder. “Come on, just drink!” or, “There’s room for two upstairs in my guest room, go on, follow him.”
Token Gay Guys-The gay couple in our “group”, these two just got married and are absolutely adorable. Token has a laugh that’s contagious and always gives great cuddles. Also known for the naked modakoosh which is something to be feared!
Unemployed Guy-My last relationship before Match. I knew him for 12 years and he was someone I had built up in my head. He had no career, no ambition, and no motivation. I am much better off without him, but I do care about him and wish he could learn how to pull himself out of the hole he is in.

Hi-I'm Date Girl aka Mrs. Match-I'm a karaoke singing, animal loving, compulsively cleaning, bubbly goofball married to the love of my life. This blog is a diary of my life as a former date girl, how I met and fell in love with my husband Match, and our married life together.
