Belly Progress-6 Months Post Partum

One of my goals this year was to lose the baby weight I gained from my pregnancy with both Roo and Piglet. I managed to get back down to my goal weight after Roo, but I had less to lose. This time around it was harder, not only because I had the weight of a 37 week pregnancy rather than 19 weeks, but also because of the c-section. I couldn’t get back to my normal routine as quickly as I wanted to. Oh, and I had a baby to look after and was running on no sleep. The last thing on my mind was exercising. Go figure huh? 😉 Here’s a look at my body transformation while carrying Piglet. It’s crazy to me that I used to carry that big ol’ basketball around! I don’t have any pictures from the day I went into labor, but it was four days after that last picture was taken. I’m pretty sure the belly was even bigger.

After 6 months of hard work, I’m so excited to see that scale show that I just have one more pound to lose! I still have a month to lose that final pound (and maybe 4 more to get to my ideal weight). I’m not going to focus too much on the scale though. I’m focusing on getting back into healthy eating habits, and working out, and feeling good in my skin again. It feels so good to have my strength back. I love working out with my husband. We get the endorphins flowing and the pheromones stirred up 😉 Piglet is old enough for the gym daycare now, and I’m hoping to try it out soon. I know it will be good for him to have some time with other kids, and it will be good for me to get a little me time. I think I’ll be a better mom for it

I am still having trouble tightening my lower abdominals and getting rid of the pooch, but I know it will take time. I still have puffiness around the incision site, and I’ve always struggled with a belly pooch. Part of it is just getting older as well. I’ve been doing pilates and focusing on tightening my core, and I hope by Piglet’s first birthday to be back to where I was.

I cannot believe I posted bare belly pictures, but I think they show my progress better than the tank tops. I also want to say I didn’t write this post to toot my own horn, but mostly to motivate myself. I still have work to do, but I can look at my body and say I’m ok with what I see. I also need to be able to look at these posts for encouragement when and if we get pregnant again. I need to remind myself that I can get my body back if I work hard and feel good about myself.

Motivation to Keep Running

Rory: Janet’s out jogging so I don’t know what she thinks, but I have to hope she’s pleased ’cause that girl’s in shape and can kick my butt.
Lorelai: Well, just make sure there’s something she likes on the TV when she gets home. Something soothing to runners – maybe something that goes in a circle over and over. –Gilmore Girls

One of my goals for this year was to stick to a good workout routine and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I feel like I’m doing a pretty good job of that, though I know I could always work out more. I’ve been jogging a few times a week with my pup Monkey. Unfortunately the last few weeks my knee has started hurting. I’ve had trouble with it in the past, nothing serious that requires an acl knee brace or anything, but I did have to tape it and do physical therapy for a couple of months. I don’t remember actually injuring it, but one day it just started giving me pain when I would run. It went away when I switched to different workouts, but now it’s back. I know it’s kind of an excuse, but until it gets better or I fix my form I may just have to do power walking as my cardio workout.

Circuit Training and a Foodie Weekend

Ted: I wound up shame-eating the whole pizza. I woke up all greasy and sweaty. My sheets looked like what they wrap Deli sandwiches in. Maybe I should join a gym. Do you go to a gym?

Barney: Well, I go to Total Rip Fitness. But I don’t work out there.

Ted: What do you do?

Barney: I invest. –How I Met Your Mother

This past weekend Match and I enjoyed another 3 day weekend together. We started it off with a bang by having sushi at our favorite sushi place. I love it because they are walking distance from our house and we can walk off all of those fried rolls we inevitably order.

We attempted to try a new restaurant but it was too authentic for us. Nothing was deep fried. So we said F that and went back to our local spot.Saturday night I was craving pizza so I decided to try my hand at making a gourmet pizza at home. I dedicated a post to it that I will share with you soon. Sunday I made portabello mushroom burgers and steamed artichokes with wasabi aioli. Yum!

Mixed in with all the eating we managed to find some time for fitness. On Friday Match slept most of the day to recover from his graveyard shift. I had tried to stay awake the night before but couldn’t do it, so I was up around 10. I decided to take Monkey for a hike at a nearby park.

The park is a regional park that is also home to free range cattle. It’s not very often that you go hiking and run into cows. Monkey tried to make friends but they ignored him.

Saturday I took Match to the same park and we hiked further out. It was absolutely beautiful outside and we got to enjoy the amazing views.

Monkey tried to befriend the cows again.

We burned quite a few calories going up some steep hills so I figured we earned our gourmet pizza that night. Here’s a sneak peak at the deliciousness.

Sunday Match decided that since we are trying to save money and aren’t doing gym memberships, we should bring the gym to us. So he set up our backyard as a circuit training area. He even made a sign.

Supermans are the worst. They are  like a combo jumping jack push up and they leave me wishing I didn’t care about fitness. I love that Match is so into working out and not just in a creatine supplements kind of way, but really toning and shaping up, it’s so encouraging. Monday I was so sore but in that really good post workout kind of way. Nothing like three upcoming weddings to go to, plus my 10 year reunion and bikini season to get a girl motivated!

My First Week of Getting “Ripped”

“Hamburger bad, french fries, bad, coca cola, bad…there I said it. Drink your water people!” -Tony Horton, P90X

I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been trying to get in shape for the wedding. Well Match finally went ahead and bought the P90X dvds. I’m sure most of you have seen at least one or two of the infomercials about these fitness dvds. Match is determined to get “ripped” before the wedding. He’s already in great shape, but who am I to deny letting the man give himself an 8 pack for me? 😉
