Summer Party Ideas

Harold: I say we crash Rhonda’s party and eat all her food!
Kids: YEAH!!! -Hey Arnold!

Hello my lovelies! I need some advice. Match and I are hosting a summer bbq/potluck at our house on Sunday. It’s our first party since February, and I want it to be fun.  I always have these beautiful images in my head of what I want a party to look and be like.  I blame it on Pinterest. I mean, who actually has these parties? And why haven’t they invited ME?

I definitely don’t want to spend a lot, but I would love it if my party was more than just another house party. The weather is supposed to be in the upper 90s til the evening, and people will be showing up around 2. I’m afraid we might be stuck inside the whole time! This is making it tough to come up with fun ideas.

Match and I made a homemade washers game we will be playing if it’s cool enough. Don’t you judge my dead grass. I swear, I water it every day, and it still looks like that. 🙁 Stupid heat!

I plan on hanging up a couple of cute summery banners, and setting up the dining room table buffet style.

Garland from the Fickle Felt Tree

I need help with the details. Do I do paper plates since it’ll be easier for clean up? Or do I go “green” and use regular plates and do a lot of dish washing? Do I use glasses or buy plastic?

I do plan on having water bottles that I’m going to try to decorate with either paint or colorful duct tape. We’re also serving beer and juice drinks, so cups might not be necessary.

Any ideas for some fun last minute DIY decoration ideas? I’m also thinking of putting out board games in case we’re all stuck inside. I’m probably putting too much thought into this, but I love a good party that has a little something extra, don’t you?

Show Us Your Find-How I Stay Organized

Monica: We need to sort through the tickets as quickly as possible to see if we won. Does anybody have any ideas how to organize this? [abruptly] How about this – we divide them into six groups of forty, and the remaining ten can be read by whoever finishes their pile first.
Rachel: [raising her hand] I have another idea!
Monica: Sorry, idea time is over!-Friends

This is a find I’ve been meaning to share with you all for quite awhile. Back in January I was figuring out how to update my dry erase calendar. I hated the layout, and I didn’t have enough room for all my notes. Then I looked on pinterest and saw some great ideas for DIY dry erase boards like these:

All you need is a frame with glass (plastic will not work) and a large piece of white paper to get started. Now mine isn’t as pretty or fancy, but it works really well for us. I like that every month I can change up the color of the month, and add little drawings depending on the season. Click on the picture to see a larger view.

With my calendar, I picked green for Match’s appointments, and red for mine. Blue is for both, and purple is for holidays. I hung it up in the entry way, right where we grab our keys before leaving the house. I love that Match actually uses the calendar. It keeps us completely organized and it makes my little Virgo heart go pitter patter. 🙂

How do you keep your family organized?

Show Us Your Find-Bridal Shower Banners

Dorothy: Did you finish the decorations, Rose?
Rose: No, not yet. I, I kinda got sidetracked. [reveals a mouse-like balloon sculpture] Look. [laughs]
Dorothy: This is what you’ve been doing for the past forty-five minutes?
Rose: Uh-huh. Isn’t he cute? I call him Scotty. [Dorothy pops the balloon]
Dorothy: Now you can call him garbage. –The Golden Girls

My office/craft room has become wedding central in the last few weeks. I’m running out of room for where to store things. The latest creations for Sassy’s bridal shower are these banners I found on etsy

I should probably have just bought them, but I had to be stubborn and make them myself. My first one isn’t quite as fancy, but I think it turned out cute. It’s darker than it looks in the picture. I might add some bling to it, maybe a little glitter to jazz it up some more.

I’m going to do another one that says the Future Mrs. and then put her new last name. I think they’ll be perfect for photo ops.

I have also been working on these little size inserts for her bridal shower invitations. First off, wouldn’t you just kill for those measurements? Given she bought the boobies, but STILL. I found some ideas online, but nothing I liked, so this is what I came up with a la me. What do you think?

Next on my list is to come up with something to do for Easter. I’m thinking it’d be fun to decorate a flower pot for Easter plants or do something else Easter related.
