Sheldon: You know the holidays are just around the corner. Maybe he just wants to see if he can lodge the other testicle up there. Leonard: I told you, that was a different guy. Penny: Well, that’s too bad. You could’ve spent New Year’s Eve waiting for the ball to drop. –Big Bang Theory
Last night I rang in the New Year with Sassy Couple. It was my first New Year’s away from Match and I missed him terribly. The night was really low key which was just what I was in the mood for. Sassy had me come over early so she could fix my hair and makeup. It was a house party, but everyone dressed up, which was so fun.
While Sassy was doing my hair she asked me to be one of her bridesmaids!! She said that she loves me and that even though we’ve only been friends a little over a year, I’m one of her favorite people, and I’m the only one who has shown a big interest in her wedding. I said yes of course, and I’m so honored that she picked me. I’ve only been a bridesmaid once, for my brother’s wedding when I was 20, and I feel like that’s not the same as being asked by a friend. Sassy Guy also asked Match to be his groomsman, so it looks like we’ll be walking down the aisle together again. 🙂 I can’t wait to plan her bridal shower and participate in all of the fun wedding stuff. It’s so exciting to be on the other side of it.
We played a few silly games, took lots of cheesy pictures, and danced in the New Year.
I called it a night early and came home to relax in my pjs with my pup. I think it was a perfect reflection of what this year has in store. I think there will be a lot more mellow house parties versus loud bar scenes, and a lot more quiet evenings at home. And you know what? I can’t wait. How did you ring in 2012?
Yes, Barney, your submissions were received and no, we will not be attending any parties in your pants. -Ted, How I Met Your Mother
This year I finally have big New Year’s Eve plans. Match and I are joining Tahoe Couple at their new place in San Francisco. I cannot wait! We’re taking public transportation over so we won’t have to deal with the stresses of traffic and we can just relax. I’m not sure what we’re going to do. I think we’ll be going out to the pubs within walking distance of their apartment. I know I can probably get away with wearing some apple bottom jeans and a cute top but part of me wants to really pull out all the stops. I mean, how often do I get to celebrate New Years in the city? I’d love to wear a fancy dress and get all dolled up. But we will be walking, and I’m practical. So we’ll see. Maybe I should go shopping at the outlets, just in case.
Who gets to determine when the old ends and the new begins? It’s not on the calendar, it’s not a birthday, it’s not a new year, it’s an event —big or small, something that changes us, ideally it gives us hope, a new way of living and looking at the world, letting go of old habits, old memories. What’s important is that we never stop believing we can have a new beginning, but it’s also important to remember amid all the crap are a few things really worth holding on to. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy
I’ve been looking forward to New Year’s Eve with Match pretty much since we first started dating. There’s just something about New Year’s eve that seems romantic to me. Ringing in the New Year with the one you love, kissing at midnight, all of that. I’ve had some pretty lame New Year’s in the past, and I was hoping this one would be different. Well we caught the nasty cold bug that’s going around, so both of us are feeling pretty lousy. Continue reading New Year’s Eve Plans→
