Match and the Military

We enter the world alone and we leave it alone. And everything that happens in between, we owe it to our self to find a little company. We need help. We need support. Otherwise we’re in it by our self. Strangers, cut off from each other and we forget just how connect we all are. So instead we choose love. We choose life and for a moment we feel just a little bit less alone. –Grey’s Anatomy

Match and I had our first really hard discussion as an engaged couple this past week. You remember I told you Match got a new job right before our trip to Oregon? Well, they told him he had to get his gaming license to become a security guard/emt at the casino he was hired at. That meant an extensive background check. They said it would be about 3 weeks to complete, and here it is well over 3 weeks and still no start date. Match has become really anxious being stuck at home all the time, and more and more depressed and worried about money. Continue reading Match and the Military

Wedding Venues and Setting a Date

I hate the bride thing. I hate the pictures in the magazines of the girl with the veil…and the flowers that she’s sniffing. Like it never occurred to her to put her nose in there until there was a camera pointed at her. I hate the idea of bridesmaids…and the colors…and does the bustle make my ass look bigger or smaller. I hate the whole thing and I never wanted to be that girl. That girl is stupid… and shallow. So why the hell is that girl’s thoughts running through my head? -Izzie, Grey’s Anatomy

Hello my blogging buddies. There hasn’t been a whole lot going on for me except wedding planning. I just want to apologize ahead of time for how much I’m talking about the wedding, but honestly, that’s the only thing we talk about at home too! I never thought I would be that girl, and I apologize! Work has been extremely slow so I’ve been filling my time with browsing the endless wedding sites online. This past weekend Match finally got into the act and went venue hunting with me. Continue reading Wedding Venues and Setting a Date

New Year’s Resolutions

Fresh starts thanks to the calendar they happen every year —just set your watch to January, our reward for surviving the holiday season is a new year. Bringing on the great tradition of new years resolutions, put your past behind you and start over. It’s hard to resist the chance of a new beginning, a chance to put the problems of last year to bed. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy

It’s that time of year again: New Year’s Resolutions! I have a few that I really hope to stick to this year.

Since I don’t know of a magical diet pill that works (and because they’re pretty darn unhealthy) I have resolved to get my butt in gear the old fashioned way-hard work and cutting down on my portions. I refuse to fully diet because I just can’t do it, but I can cut back on sweets and portions. Diets I feel just make it feel like you’re missing out you know? Continue reading New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year!

Who gets to determine when the old ends and the new begins? It’s not on the calendar, it’s not a birthday, it’s not a new year, it’s an event —big or small, something that changes us, ideally it gives us hope, a new way of living and looking at the world, letting go of old habits, old memories. What’s important is that we never stop believing we can have a new beginning, but it’s also important to remember amid all the crap are a few things really worth holding on to. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy

Wow, 2009 is over.  I can’t believe what a wild year this has been. I was accepted into graduate school (but passed on it for now, still I got in, yay!), Match and I moved (twice!), Match quit his job, got another horrible job, quit that and now has a new job which we both think may just be fabulous. I lost a few friends, and gained more, I gained pounds (grr), cut ties with toxic family members, gave up my parrot to a loving family (heartbreaking, but our household is finally peaceful),  and then I GOT ENGAGED?!

This has been an amazing year full of blessings and love, some tears but more tears of joy, and I’m so glad I’ve been able to share it with you all.  Here’s hoping that 2010 has more fun to share with you all. Hey, it may even include a wedding if I can get the dates all figured out! So thank you, thank you all for being such a big part of my life. Happy New Year!!

Tis the Season For Giving

The best gift I ever got was for Christmas when I was ten – my very first suture kit. I used it until my fingers bled, and then I tried to use it to stitch up my fingers. It put me on the path to becoming a surgeon. My point is sometimes the best gifts come in really surprising packages. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy

My favorite part of Christmas is seeing the looks on my loved ones faces when I give them their gifts. I love to make people I love smile or brighten their day. So in that spirit, I’m going to have my first ever Date Girl Diaries give away!! I wish I could give a gift to every one of my readers, but since there are about 80 of you, I’m going to have to pick just one. I told Match my idea of giving a gift to one of you, and he suggested we have a little contest. 🙂 Continue reading Tis the Season For Giving
