Kicking off the Christmas Season

I don’t know what it is this year, but I’ve been more into the Christmas spirit then ever. I just love how into holidays Piglet gets. It makes me get even more excited, and makes me want to make everything as magical as possible. Even Match gets into it, and has been helping me decorate.

We surprised Piglet again with the Holiday Express to kick off the first weekend of December. This time Match was able to join us! I love that this has become one of our family traditions. His little face lit up when he saw Santa. Also, Piglet recently got glasses, and they are just about the cutest thing ever.

This year we got great seats, right at the front. I wish we could travel like this all the time. It was so relaxing!

We had such a fun day! After the train ride, we went to a nearby pub. They had a play area, a craft table, and they were even giving out free cupcakes. Don’t mind Match, he’s going full amish on me.

We topped the day off with a walk through George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego. It is gorgeous! I love this park. I want to do family photos there someday.

Piglet and I spent Sunday working on more decorations for the house. We made the golden snitch from Harry Potter, to go with our Hedwig tree topper. I also made a Nimbus 2000 out of twigs, twist ties and hot glue.

Here are a few photos of the rest of the house. It feels extra magical this year. Match helped me make the winter tree for the corner, and we did more indoor lights than we’ve done in the past. I’d still like to do more, but time is my enemy these days, so this may do for this year.

We watched Elf with Piglet on Friday night. Then Sunday night Match and I watched the Holiday and snuggled up, and I remembered how the first time I watched this movie with him I knew I wanted to marry him. That happened to be the Christmas he proposed too. So far it’s been a wonderful kick-off to the holiday season.

Christmas Home Tour ’17

I’m a little late on this post, but it’s been a very jam packed December. I’ve been so busy with work, and every weekend I try to make up for it by filling our weekends with family activities and quality time together. It doesn’t always ease the mama guilt, but it helps.

Christmas, as many of you know, is my absolute favorite time of year. I love the decorations, the music, the clothes, all of it. This is our second Christmas in our home, and this year with the fireplace, it just feels more magical.

This year we went back to the tree farm that my co-worker and friend owns. We opted for a Noble Fir for the first time, and I’m completely hooked. I have less allergies with this tree, and the needles are staying on the tree, instead of in a pile on my floor.

This is Piglet’s go to expression. Cracks me up every time!

Match and Piglet adding the final touches on the tree.

My heart is sad that this is our first Christmas without our furbaby, Oscar. But he has ornaments all over the tree.

I bought us matching jammies this year, and I’m pretty sure this will be our new tradition. I can’t get enough of them, and Piglet loves that we all match.

We even wore our matching jammies when we took pictures with Santa. Nevermind that I look like a giant in this picture. Santa’s elf asked me to sit on his lap, and it messes with the angle. But it was worth it to see Piglet smile like that!

Here’s the rest of our Christmas touches around the house. This was my first year with the Disney village, courtesy of my stepmom. I especially love Beauty and the Beast, which happens to be one of my favorite Disney movies.

It just wouldn’t be Christmas without the Olaf door, and of course the hanging snowflakes.

We didn’t do much to deck out the outside of the house. I’m terrible at hanging lights, so I did a little stream along our rock river. Match promised next year to do more for the outside.

Tomorrow is the kickoff to my mini-staycation. I’m off from Friday through Tuesday. Piglet and I have a fun filled day planned, starting with baking Christmas cookies in our matching jammies. This is the best time of year! Do you have any Christmas plans? Did you deck your halls?

Christmas Tour-2016

“It’s my favorite time of year!” says Piglet’s Christmas Thomas as it chugs along the track. I couldn’t agree more! I love decorating for the holidays.

Being the first Christmas at our new home, I wanted to make sure it was special. Here are a few of my favorite Christmas decorations.

Piglet helped me with these bathroom carolers, that he calls “Whistle Singers”. I love how the one on the left is a reluctant singer.

In the kitchen, I framed my favorite Elf quote. Match calls me his little Elf, because I have a slight sugar addiction.

We also added a splash of decor to Piglet’s room. We hung snowflakes and little Christmas trees around the track. I added lights to the train for a festive touch. Next year maybe I’ll add lights all the way around the track.

I made my own ornament wreath out of leftover ornaments and garland

We also made sure to bring back the Olaf door for Piglet.

I love how magical everything is. I am so excited that we’re having Christmas at home this year. Thanks for stopping by for our Christmas tour. I’d love to see your houses! Send me a link so I can visit.

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

I’m sorry, I was looking for my apartment, but I seem to have stumbled upon some sort of magical winter wonderland instead. Why, perhaps this elf can help me. –Veronica Mars

The day after our Thanksgiving, so this past Sunday for us, Match and I grabbed Monkey and headed off to the Christmas tree farm. With our housewarming party this Saturday, I was anxious to get our halls decked in a hurry. Can you blame me? It’s our first Christmas in the new house!

Last year we just went to a local tree lot, because that’s all that was nearby. But this year we found a Christmas tree farm just 20 minutes out of town. It was so cute! They had Santa sleigh rides for kids, and free hot cocoa and cider. You could walk the farm and cut down your own tree, or choose from pre-cut trees. I snapped this picture while we were walking down Kris Kringle lane. How sweet is that father and son? I could just picture that being Match and our future little one.

We wanted to cut our own, but I have a love for pine trees, and they only had pre-cuts left. We found the perfect tree. It’s 8 feet and glorious. It’s by far the biggest Christmas tree I’ve ever had.

There was a photo opt spot and of course I made Match take pictures with me.

Here’s what the tree looked like all set up in the stand. It was sort of daunting to decorate. I had to use my step ladder for most of it!

After decorating the tree, with the help of my elf:

Match put up lights for me. It was a total suburbia moment, with two sets of neighbors across from us putting up their lights at the same time.

After a fun filled day of getting into the Christmas spirit, we finished the night off by watching holiday lights specials while drinking hot cocoa and eating ice cream. It was the perfect way to kick off the Christmas season.
