I’ve kind of wondered about this for a long time. It seems like when us women get cozy and comfortable, and when we’re happy, a trigger goes off in our body saying bring on the cellulite! I wonder if it’s biology saying put on weight it’s time to make babies, or if it’s just that we’re not as busy? I do know I eat more with Match than I did when I was alone, because seriously, who wants to cook for one?

I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, but I’m now also the heaviest. I know part of it is that I’m getting older, but I’m also very active. I’ve been so frustrated with my weight it almost makes me want to read up on the diet pill reviews out there and see what one works. I wouldn’t really do that, but it’s tempting! Match is so encouraging and tells me how beautiful I am. What I love though is not only does he tell me I’m beautiful, he encourages me to work out with him. I love that! When I gained weight when I started dating Flame Boy, he used to just point out how I was getting fatter, then bring home fast food. Match eats healthy with me, and we go out and exercise.

So maybe it will just take time to get past that extra weight gain that comes with a new relationship. I’m curious though, have any of you experienced this? When you start a new relationship, do you pack on the pounds?

Cheer up, Bart. Milhouse is still going to need a true friend, someone to tell him he’s great. Someone to rub lotion on him. Someone he can hurl whiskey bottles at when he’s feeling low. -Lisa, The Simpsons

Friday night Match and I got to hang out with Couple Wife and Couple Hubby. They just recently moved into their first home, and it is beyond drool worthy. Their house is a 2 story, 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home, and it’s gorgeous! CW has the exact same taste I do in furniture and I couldn’t help but be jealous of their beautiful home. Someday…someday that will be us.

We all cozied up on the couch and watched a good but really random movie about a guy who thinks he’s a super hero but he’s completely delusional. It was pretty funny in parts, and I loved that CW and CH talked and made comments throughout it, just like Match and I do. It makes for a more entertaining movie.

After the movie, Couple Hubby and Match went out to the garage to look at CH’s project car. Match and I have talked about building a project car someday-I think it would be a lot of fun. While the boys were out talking men talk, Couple Wife and I looked at her wedding pictures. Their wedding was so beautiful! We talked about the cost, and all the details to remember. Since she just got married in July everything is all fresh in her mind, so I was grilling her for information. I know it’s all wishful thinking right now, but it’s so much fun to talk about.

Saturday was the much awaited visit from Personality Twin. We started the afternoon off with just hanging out around the apartment. The first thing she said to me when she saw the changes I’d made since Match moved in was, “Wow, you’re a grown up now!” We spent the afternoon on the couch with our laptops, just casually hanging around the house. That’s what I love about PT-when it comes to being a guest, she’s very low maintenance. I can just relax and not have to worry about entertaining her. She’s very self sufficient!

So Match came home around 5, and I started cooking dinner. Match was being really goofy and cracking jokes to entertain Personality Twin. They seemed to get along right away which was so nice. PT and I had fun getting ready together, putting on our makeup in the guest bathroom, giggling and being girlie. She sat in the sink for some reason: it was random and made for an adorable picture.

We had a good time at karaoke even though Match’s cousin was a no show. So much for my match making skills! It was fun to people watch-there are some wacky people that come to karaoke bars. Plus the place we went to has a stripper pole on the karaoke stage, and of course the most unattractive people in the crowd are the ones that like to get up there and shake their stuff. Ewwww.

Sunday morning Match and I got to sleep in for us. His academy started at 9 instead of 8, so we slept some. Then I spent the morning snuggled up on the couch watching movies and waiting for PT to get up. We walked downtown and got breakfast, then headed to the mall after. I was getting really down about my recent weight gain, and I was joking around going to the health food store and buying the best diet pills they carry. But PT cheered me up and said I looked great. Still, I would like to lose about ten pounds, just gotta get some exercise. We also talked a lot about my potential wedding that’s going to happen someday. PT insisted on being the wedding planner, which I think is awesome. She said when I get engaged she’ll come into town and help me figure everything out. I can’t wait for that day!

After the mall PT had to head home and Match got the second half of the day off. It was so nice to get to spend the day together! We went to the park and went on a long walk, and worked out on the obstacle course there, doing crunches and push ups. After that we went to Match’s parents house and took pictures for our Christmas card. I’m so excited that we’re sending out a couples Christmas card! We started out trying to prop the camera on a rock and take the pictures ourselves. Of course those didn’t turn out that great, and we were having a hard time. Luckily Match’s mom showed up and took the pictures for us. She was great at taking pictures! I couldn’t believe the shots she got. The hard part is going to be deciding which one to use for our card!

I was tagged by Miss Penny Lane over at She is Anyway, a fun blog I just started reading-check it out! Ok, let me give these questions a shot:
1. Were you named after someone?

Nope. My mom read about my name in a name book and it means third child (which I am of course) and she liked the sound. I happen to love my name for the fact that it’s not very common. When I was a kid I hated it because I could never find those silly personalized pencils and keychains you get at souvenir shops.

2. Do you still have your tonsils?

Yes I sure do. Some doctors wanted to yank them because I kept getting throat infections, but I never had tonsillitis. I’m a firm believer in not having unnecessary surgeries and the tonsils are part of my immune system, so I’ll keep em while I can thank you very much.

3. Would you bunjee jump?

No I don’t think I could every do something like that. I’m terrified of heights and I hate that dropped feeling in your stomach, yuck.

4. What is your favorite cereal?

I love all those little kids cereals that are so bad you and are more like junk food than a cereal, but I never actually eat them. Among the top 4 are cookie crisps, cocoa puffs, lucky charms, and captain crunch with crunchberries.

5. Do you untie your shoes when you take them off?

I don’t except for my running shoes-I’m terrible able that.

6. What is your favorite ice cream?

Oh this is tough because I love ice cream-it is my favorite dessert there is. I don’t have a favorite, again it’s a list. I love chocolate chip cookie dough, chocolate chip mint, peppermint, and cherry garcia just to name a few.

7. What is the first thing you notice about people?

I think I notice smiles, or lack thereof. There is nothing as attractive as a great smile.

8. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?

Hmm at this moment it is the extra weight that I’m gaining around my midsection. I also hate my big nose, but Match says it’s cute, so it’s growing on me.

9. What was the last thing you ate?

I had cherry garcia frozen yogurt with PT and Match. It was excellent!

10. What are you listening to right now?

We’re actually watching Bruce Almighty while we kill time before going to karaoke. Yay!

11. Last movie you watched?

See above before that we watched Sweet Home Alabama. It’s been a lazy kind of day.

12. What did you dream about last night?

Last night I don’t remember. But two nights ago I dreamed Match and I got married!! In the dream everything went wrong, the order of the wedding, the dress was all wrong, and for some reason the photographer wouldn’t take pictures. Still, I was married to Match

13. What book are you reading?

None at the moment but I just finished The Secret Lives of Bees, and I loved it. Thanks Coast Sister

14. Summer or Winter?

Winter definitely. I LOVE the holidays Actually if I were choosing fall would be the very best. Not too cold, but gorgeous with all the fall leaves.

15. Do you have any special talents?

I can carry a tune alright. I can also name all 50 states alphabetically off the top of my head. Thank youuuu 5th grade choir and making us memorize “50 Nifty United States” ughhhh.

I tag my SoCali friend, Heather Leigh Have fun!

Ahhhh I’m sooo excited! Personality Twin is coming to town this Saturday! I haven’t seen her in so long, wow…She hasn’t even met Match yet! I can’t wait for them to meet, I know she’s gonna love him.

I’ve got our night all planned out-we’re going to karaoke it up at our favorite spot. It has a stripper pole for PT to dance around while I sing, haha! Before going out, we’re gonna spend the afternoon hanging out while Match is at class, which is perfect. We need some time to catch up and be girly before he comes home.

I think I’m gonna try to convince Match to bring his cousin out with us when we go out. We went out with him on Halloween and he’s a lot of fun. He’s our age, cute, successful and fun. He dresses nice, wears Seiko watches and nice clothes, so I know he’s her type. He’s also pretty down to earth, and doesn’t seem metro at all. He already owns his own home, which is impressive. Now I am not trying to be a total matchmaker here, but if they get along and PT has a good time flirting, all the better. I just want to make sure she doesn’t feel like a third wheel. Though knowing us, Match will probably feel like a third wheel more than PT. Ha!

I really need this weekend after the falling out with Reality Check. After our nice talk awhile back, she really didn’t change her behavior. I didn’t hear from her for a week, and then when I did, she wanted to make plans on one of the few days of the week that I’ve told her repeatedly I can’t hang out. It was just another example of her not listening to what’s going on in my life, and everything being about her. I realized that I hadn’t missed not talking to her, and in fact I was relieved. So I wrote her out a long well thought out letter (which Coast Sister helped me compose) telling her how I felt. I basically “broke up” with RC. I felt bad, but it needed to be done, because the stress of our friendship was getting to me. I am sad in some ways, but mostly sad for her. Still, I think I made the right decision. Friendships are not supposed to be this hard. Yes you have to put forth effort, yes you need to be there for each other, but when it becomes constant stress and worry, it is too much. I don’t think RC and I were every as close as we thought we were. I think we were just two people who needed someone to hang out with. We didn’t agree on anything, and we were fundamentally different in almost every way.

Still even though I’m relieved to have said all I needed to say to Reality Check (and give her a dose of reality) I was sad because it just reminded me of how lonely I’ve been. When Match is in class I spend a good majority of my time alone. I miss my good girlfriends who are spread out all over. So Personality Twin coming to town could not have come at a better time. I think she must have turned on her friend radar. Can’t wait till Saturday!!

I’m trying to get all my Christmas shopping done early, but getting something for Match is going to be a challenge. I can’t just get him some generic sports gifts or things like that. It’s gotta be special, something big for our first Christmas together. Also, after Sunday night I’m more than a little gift shy.

See, it all started with Match and I going to see his parents, who just got back from Europe. I was excited because I really missed them-we get together about once a week for dinner, and we have a great time. The only problem is whenever we go over there, Match reverts to a little kid. He whines, he sasses, and in general, he’s a 10 year old. It’s usually not that bad, and I do understand it. No one can turn us into children quite like our parents. Still, I keep thinking that the more we go over there, the better it will get. This was not such an occasion.

Match’s mom had brought us home gifts, and she was so excited to give them to us. It was cute how she was so eager for us to open them. She gave me this beautiful hand painted fan from Spain which I love. Then Match opened his gift, and you should have seen the huge pout on his face. It was like a kid at Christmas, who just wanted a bike sooo badly, and he goes to open his presents, and no bike. She had given him this tee shirt, and keep in mind, it’s a euro shirt, so it was tight fitting. Match also hated the phrase, “Have an Art Day”. He kept saying how ridiculous it was, and how he wouldn’t wear it. I glared at him and made him try it on. The thing is, I was always taught that you show appreciation for a gift, no matter what you think of it. If he decides not to wear it, fine. But if you had seen how excited his mother was, you would have wanted him to fake it too. I mean, the woman looked absolutely crushed when he said he didn’t like it. He wanted to give it back! At this point, he turned into a toddler. I think at one point I actually pinched him and told him to knock it off.

Finally we moved on, and sat down for dinner, which was amazing as always. His dad is a great cook, and I love eating over there. It’s never simple, and this was no exception-roasted lamb with rosemary and potatoes. Yum! So over dinner things seemed to lighten up and we talked about the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday and Match’s sister coming home for the holiday.

As we were getting ready to leave, I could see the jetlag set in for his parents. They both looked exhausted so we got ready to say our goodbyes and go home. I had just leaned down to say goodbye to Match’s kitty, Mowgli, when I noticed something on the dining room chair. I said, “Oh please tell me that’s his toy!” It wasn’t a toy, it was in fact a large, dead grey mouse. Mowgli was acting possessed and running around the room with it, flinging it in the air with what could only be described as pure joy. We all started cracking up, and also screaming and trying to get him to take it outside. We got him out the door, and then realized the kitty door was open, and before you knew it, he was back inside and placing his prize at Match’s mom’s feet. We finally got the cat and the mouse outside, and we all couldn’t stop laughing. Leave it to Mowgli to lighten up the evening!

On the drive home I did have a serious talk with Match about why it is that he reacted that way. He had actually been really stressed all evening, before he even got his present. He said that his parents make him feel like a little kid and it really stresses him out. Then when they treat him like a child, he starts acting like one. He apologized for making me feel uncomfortable, and the next day he apologized to his mom. We talked about him having to be the bigger person and act like an adult around his parents, and eventually they will treat him that way. I think part of the problem is he’s always been around, and was living with them after college, so in their eyes, he still is a child living under their roof. It will take time for them to treat him like an adult, and of course in some ways they’ll always treat him like a kid. It’ll just be how he handles it that will matter. And for me, I know I’ll have my moments around my family. They are far away, so the moments are less frequent, but deep down we’re always big kids around our parents. The fact that he apologized, and was aware he was doing it showed just what a good man he is.
