Wedding Expo with the Future MIL

Rachel: What happened at dinner?
Monica: My parents spent the money for our wedding.
Phoebe: My god, what did you order? –Friends

Yesterday Match’s mom and I went to this big wedding expo, where we were able to do cake and wine tastings, talk to different representatives for wedding venues, wedding dress stores, tux rentals, and caterers. Basically a huge Wedding Fair. Needless to say I was in heaven! Continue reading Wedding Expo with the Future MIL

Wedding Venues and Setting a Date

I hate the bride thing. I hate the pictures in the magazines of the girl with the veil…and the flowers that she’s sniffing. Like it never occurred to her to put her nose in there until there was a camera pointed at her. I hate the idea of bridesmaids…and the colors…and does the bustle make my ass look bigger or smaller. I hate the whole thing and I never wanted to be that girl. That girl is stupid… and shallow. So why the hell is that girl’s thoughts running through my head? -Izzie, Grey’s Anatomy

Hello my blogging buddies. There hasn’t been a whole lot going on for me except wedding planning. I just want to apologize ahead of time for how much I’m talking about the wedding, but honestly, that’s the only thing we talk about at home too! I never thought I would be that girl, and I apologize! Work has been extremely slow so I’ve been filling my time with browsing the endless wedding sites online. This past weekend Match finally got into the act and went venue hunting with me. Continue reading Wedding Venues and Setting a Date

Saving for the Big Day

Red: Pork chops? I thought we agreed to stick to a budget! Pork chops aren’t cheap!Kitty: Well, you know, on the way to the market, I tried to run over a cat. But they are just so darn speedy! –That 70s Show

I always knew weddings could be expensive, but I was ignorant to just how much they could cost. I just assumed I could budget and I could still have a nice wedding. But living in Sonoma County I’ve been struggling to find any venue within our small budget. I considered having the wedding in Oregon, but it would be too hard to plan a wedding a state away.

I found this site that talks about  30 Ways to Save Money and I got the idea that I should come up with a few ways to save money for our wedding. I came up with 10, and maybe you all can give me some more money saving tips. It’s not like I need some fancy over the top affair, but I just don’t want it to be obviously low budget. Here’s my list so far: Continue reading Saving for the Big Day

Wedding Registries Rock

Mimi: I’m still trying to figure out how to make our wedding registry vital to national security.
Stanley: You’re already planning our wedding registry?
Mimi: Oh, since I was twelve. And I’ve already taken off the list luxury items that we already have such as your Star Wars collectors’ glasses. –Jericho

I’m so excited to finally be able to fill out a wedding registry! Of course we still have to set the date, but when we do…we’re going to have so much fun picking out things for the registry. I just need to tell my practical Virgo side that it’s ok to register for pretty things, like serving platters and a new dinner set, instead of
allergy mattress covers or a vacuum (though I’d be happy with those too!). I love shopping off registries because you know the person you’re giving for actually wants these things. I want to try to avoid getting anything super weird-thanks for the baby maker blanket grandma! That’s not awkward at all…
