Merry belated Christmas! It was the first year we’ve ever, ever had a Christmas all to ourselves. That includes when we were dating. I can’t honestly think of a time I’ve had this mellow of a Christmas since I was a little girl. It was just me, Piglet, Match, and Monkey, and it was wonderful.
We started the day off with a little magic from the North Pole. Match’s coworker gave him a huge bin full of wooden railroad track, so we made a track that lead into the living room.
The look on his face in the morning was priceless.
We did stockings and presents, and then had a relaxed day of playing with our little man, eating yummy food, and just being together. It was such a nice holiday. I love this age, and how Piglet has fully embraced the magic of Christmas. I’m so glad that Piglet’s presents were quiet too. Nothing that was electronic and beeping. I’d have had to slip macks ear plugs into Match and my stocking. Instead, Santa brought Piglet a car car wash and car service station that comes apart. He spent hours playing with it.
I got my Christmas wish. I got to spend the day with my two favorite men. Oh, and I got Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which I read in two days (Thanks sweetie!).
Merry Christmas to you all! I hope it was magical.
Saturday was the first Saturday Match has had off in awhile. It was also the kickoff to my summer vacation. We decided to celebrate by surprising Piglet was a special day at the Oregon Railroad Heritage Museum. He was so excited!
We took a ride on a classic diesel engine. I’m still amazed that the ride only cost $5 and it was over 30 minutes long. It was so relaxing, and we had a great view of the waterfront.
After our day at the museum, we had a fun filled evening at our new friend’s home. They are an awesome couple with three rambunctious toddlers. I nicknamed their house Neverland, because it’s pretty much boy heaven.
It was almost like being with quadruplets, because the boys are all pretty close in age. Two are twins, then the other boy is just 2 weeks younger. They’re all about 6 months younger than Piglet, but because he’s petite, he looks their age. They had so much fun bbqing, roasting smores, and playing in the backyard tent. See what I mean by Neverland?
Sunday we did some chores around the house, but we still had fun playing. Then the 4th of July we had a low-key day. We spent the morning playing with his special model train, where he got to be a giant.
We played at the park, then BBQed in the afternoon, and our little nudist enjoyed some pool time. It was the perfect end to his adventure weekend.
Last Friday, our little boy turned 3 years old. The day before his birthday, I brought cupcakes to his daycare. They all sang him happy birthday and he got to sit in the special birthday boy spot.
My parents drove up for the weekend, and Piglet got to have a special day, just him and Gramma. They took his new red wagon from my MIL and spent the day at the park. I love that they got to have quality one on one time together.
Saturday was the big birthday party. We were supposed to have it at the park across the street, but we got rained out. So we switched gears and moved the party to our house.
I was secretly excited because it’s the first time we’ve had company since moving. It was cozy, but the layout of our new place was perfect for guests. Piglet had a great time with his friends. He only had a couple of threenager meltdowns, and luckily they were over quickly. My parents, older brother, youngest brother, and my aunt all came. We had all of Piglet’s friends there too, except for Adventure Family who couldn’t make it.
It was a very fun day for our special little boy. I am still reeling over his age. How is he already three? Three so far has been a big challenge, but for all the whining and tantrums, there are also so many heart melting sweet moments, like how he races over for “huggies and kissies” and when he spontaneously tells us he loves us.
Happy birthday, wild Wyatt. 3 years ago you made our family complete. We are so lucky to be your parents. You are such a silly, kind, intelligent and happy little boy. You are most definitely our sunshine. We love you to the moon and back!
Having a baby is a very exciting time for a couple. You can’t wait to meet your little one and finding out all about the new little person. However, it can be an expensive time with everything you need to buy for the baby. Here are four crucial things you need to buy before the big arrival to make sure it goes as smoothly as possibly when you bring yourbaby home.
A stroller is a necessity to buy for your baby for when it arrives. There are so many to look at, and it might be worth waiting to find out what gender your little one is going to be at your 20-week scan before purchasing one you like. Make sure that it lays flat to keep your baby safe while it is so little. You need to research and visit several shops before purchasing a stroller for your baby. As discussed here, you need to make sure that it’s easy to dismantle for when you are visiting friends or putting in the car. Some moms go for prams as this has more space for the baby, but it can be heavier and more inconvenient to dismantle when you go out. I love that our stroller had the option to click in the car seat when he was little. It was so convenient!
As you will be leaving the hospital for the first time, your partner may have brought the car along to take you and your baby home comfortably. Therefore, you will need a car seat to be able to take your child home safely. Again, it is worth researching about car seats that are available before making a purchase. I painstakingly researched every type of car seat out there, and read countless reviews. You can buy some car seats which double up as a carrier, which is useful for carrying your baby around, and perfect for getting them to sleep. As I said, ours had the option to click into the stroller, and we could also take it to restaurants, which was so nice when he’d actually sleep through the meal.
Once you get your baby home from the hospital, they will need somewhere to sleep. Buying a crib is an exciting part of having a baby. You should take a look at cots from Cuckooland.com as there are so many about that you can choose from. Often you can buy cots as part of a bedroom set which comes with a wardrobe, and a changing unit for your little one. However, if you are buying on a budget, you could get a second hand one, but then you should still buy a new mattress for your baby. Make sure you buy some good quality sheets to keep your child comfortable.
People will be buying your baby lots of clothes but buying your little one lots of all-in-one suits is essential. They will go through them quicker than you can imagine. You should also buy plenty of vests and some extra layers to keep them warm in colder months. It’s worth stocking up in larger sized clothes as you will get a lot of newborn clothes when your baby comes. It’s also worth buying an infant hat for when the babies born. Most likely someone will buy one for you. And whatever you do, don’t forget to buy diapers! Your baby will go through at least ten a day when they are first born. Some supermarket brands have been named even better than more expensive brands so make sure you research first before buying lots. I also recommend not buying too many newborn sizes, as your baby might be too big. In our case, Piglet was too small, and we ended up having to get a package of preemies. You never know til your little one arrives!
You will worry about all the small stuff, but don’t forget to relax and enjoy this peace before the chaos that is having a baby. It’s a whirlwind of exhaustion and utter joy all rolled into one, and one of the greatest adventures you’ll ever have.
Piglet’s new daycare has been an incredible blessing. We are so grateful for the change! He went from tantrum throwing and daily tears to singing songs and bringing home adorable crafts. He’s acclimated really well, and we are so glad we made the decision to switch his care. The only drawback is how much he’s missed his best buddy T.
Luckily I exchanged numbers with T’s mama, so we’ve been able to meet up for playdates. Watching these two play is too cute for words.
The wrestle, they joke around. They act like brothers.
We’ve had two playdates, and then yesterday he celebrated T’s 3rd birthday. Again with the cuteness!
I wish Piglet could see his buddy more, but I know he will make connections at his new daycare. And hopefully we will continue our playdates with T. I think our boys will make sure of that!
