TTUT-How to Not Clean for Company

Topanga: Oh, by the way, my parents are coming into town.
Cory: “Oh, by the way, my parents are coming into town”? Oh, by the way, Captain Titanic, the ship’s in two pieces!! -Boy Meets World

  • I’ve been anxious since Halloween. I went to the midwife checkup and I saw Piglet’s heartbeat, but I need confirmation from my Dr. that all is well.
  • The bleeding has stopped, and now I barely have spotting, which is a huge relief. Taking it very easy seems to be doing the trick.
  • This past Sunday I taught my second Sunday school class. I was exhausted by the end of the hour, but I had a great time. There was this adorable shy girl in the class, who barely spoke. By the end of class she’d warmed up to me, and sang along with the song I taught, and then surprised me with a huge hug when class was over. It was the sweetest thing!
  • Hope everyone voted today! Match and I are anxiously hoping a measure passes, as it could mean increased local police funds, and a chance to work closer to home. Fingers crossed!
  • My parents will be here on Saturday! I’m so excited for them to see our house for the first time.
  • It’s taking ALL of my willpower not to clean up in a frenzy. I know I’m not supposed to strain myself, and I’ve learned my lesson. But for my Virgoness, and because this is my MOTHER we’re talking about, it’s absolute torture. Hopefully I can bribe Match to take care of it. But let’s face it, his clean is not MY clean. If only I had it in the budget to hire a cleaning person for one day.
  • While they’re here, they’ve promised to help with a few projects around the house. I just need to relinquish control a little bit, which is so so hard for me. My mom promised to bring me a tiara and let me order them around from the couch, ha! 😉

TTUT-10 Things to Smile About in October

Paul: Kids, what does Dad do on Halloween?
Everyone (expect Paul,Cate and Kyle): Carve the pumpkin.
Cate: And what does Mom do?
Everyone (expect Paul, Cate and Kyle): Everything else. -8 Simple Rules

It’s fall and I have so many things to smile about! So I’m linking up with Emmy’s 10 Things!

1. Our little Piglet-this baby has me grinning on a daily basis.

2. The fact that I’m already showing. I know this wouldn’t make most people smile, but I love that I’m getting to skip the awkward first trimester stage. My theory is my uterus didn’t have time to shrink in the five months between pregnancies.

3. Our Halloween party tomorrow-so excited to celebrate with friends.

4. Our Halloween costumes-I will reveal them after the party. All I will say is that I spent about a week sewing mine. I cannot wait to wear them!

5. This Fall weather-FINALLY. We had another heat wave come in this past weekend, but the crisp fall mornings are finally here.

6. The end of October means that in just 3 short weeks my parents will be here. They’ve never seen our house, and it’s going to be so great having them here.

7. Geeky’s reaction when I told her about Piglet. I don’t normally show my friend’s faces, but I just had to. The reaction was just too cute to hide.

8. Asking Geeky and her husband to be Godparents to Piglet made me smile. She cried and said yes. I’m so happy this Piglet has so many people that already love him/her so much.

9. Carving pumpkins with my hubby. We haven’t done that together since the first year we started dating.

10. Not having any big bleeds or major subchorionic hemorrhage symptoms this week. Taking it easy and drinking lots of water seems to be doing the trick. I’m feeling great!

What made you smile this month?

8 Weeks 4 Days

[Having decided to apologize to Lily for interfering in her pregnancy, Ted and Marshall leave the birthing class]
Class Instructor: Dads, this is the time I’ll answer every question you’ve ever had about vaginas.
Marshall: [overhears instructor almost out of the door] Damn it! [Ted ushers him out] -How I Met Your Mother

-I’m amazed by how quickly this belly is growing. At this rate Match is going to need a jib crane just to lift me into bed. 😉 But seriously, I can’t help but be excited about my little baby bump.

-We finally got to share the news with Match’s parents on Monday. I got her reaction on video, as she read the card we gave her, with a quote about Rainbow Babies. She started figuring it out about halfway through, and just started sobbing. It was absolutely precious. We went out to dinner to celebrate, and I put my newfound appetite to good use. The waiter offered me a taste of the wine, and I told him I couldn’t because I’m pregnant, and that’s why we were there, to celebrate. He brought us a huge complimentary ice cream cake. That guy knows the way to a pregnant lady’s heart!
8 weeks pregnant, pregnancy cravings
-We had quite the scare on Tuesday for our first visit with the high risk doctor. When I went to give my urine sample, I started bleeding heavily. I was freaked out, but once again the doctor found Piglet’s heartbeat, and said she/he is growing right on schedule.
-The doctor said he felt that everything was fine, and that the subchorionic hemorrhage is still there, but not anything he’s terribly concerned about. He said I should go about my life, but take it easy when I feel I need to. I think I just overdid it when Match’s parents were in town, and possibly that’s what brought on the bleeding.
-I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed with the bleeding. It has stopped again, and I’m feeling a lot better. I’m just praying this thing resolves soon and I can go on to have a normal pregnancy. I’m grateful for my doctor, and his offer to come in every 2 weeks to ease my worry. I’m definitely taking him up on that offer to see my Piglet again at 10 weeks!
-Here’s a little glimpse of Piglet. It’s definitely a lot more clear than that first ultrasound, and much more obvious that there is just one bun in this oven. Whew!
8 weeks pregnant, ultrasound, first trimester

-Monkey is excited for the new addition to the family. I’m not sure how he’ll feel when he has to give up his favorite spot though.

My Husband is Pregnant

[Quinn pores over Barney’s prenup and notices a certain provision]
Quinn: I have to pay 2,000 dollars every time I gain a pound?!
Barney: Not every time. Just if it shows up at the weekly weigh-in. -How I Met Your Mother

One of our deputy friends Shift Buddy and his wife are expecting their third child. I may have mentioned that when she first announced her pregnancy it was really hard for me. Now that I’m pregnant with my rainbow, it is a little bit easier being around her.We had them over for dessert the other day-smores around our firepit.

Shift Wife and I were joking around about how our husbands are the pregnant ones. They both have had increased appetites since finding our we’re pregnant. It cracks me up!

Here’s Match enjoying some frozen yogurt by the fire. Dessert has been a hot topic in our household lately. 🙂

I even decided to start taking belly photos of Match to see if he develops a bump right along with me. I have to be honest-I wouldn’t mind if he did! Then we could work off the weight together in the end. It’s true what they say about second babies-this bump is growing FAST. I don’t look pregnant so much as I look like I gained a beer belly in a month. 😉

How many of you had husbands who were pregnant right along with you?

Rainbows

When a rainbow appears, it doesn’t mean the storm never happened or that the family is not still dealing with its aftermath. What it means is that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds. Storm clouds may still hover but the rainbow provides a counterbalance of color, energy and hope. -Unknown

It was September 24th, and I’d just woken up from a wonderful dream. All I remember was seeing Roo, and she was happy, and I felt such peace. It was like she was giving me her blessing. Not long after waking up, I was able to write this note to Match:

That positive is the darkest I’ve ever gotten, and guys, I’ve been pregnant 3 times in NINE months, so I know these things. This wasn’t the faint barely line of my chemical pregnancy. It wasn’t the thin but distinctive line from Roo. This was positive before the control line, as if to say, yes, this baby is STICKING.

When I woke up Match with the post it note, after his eyes adjusted, and I verified what he was reading with the test, he held me and said, “This is going to be different. I can feel it.”

We experienced two blissful weeks where I was able to continue working out, and I showed no signs of discomfort or issues, except for the typical first trimester sleepies.

Then, one day while doing yardwork, at about 6 weeks 5 days, I went potty and gasped. There was blood everywhere. We rushed to the ER, where we ended up in the exact same room I was in when I first went to the ER with Roo.
When we got the ultrasound, the tech wasn’t allowed to tell me anything good or bad. I pleaded with him, “we haven’t had a chance to get the ultrasound, can you just tell me if there’s a heartbeat?”

He just turned the monitor to me, and turned on the doppler. We saw the flicker, and that wonderful thump thump thump.

Then we had to wait another 20 minutes to hear from the doctor. He checked my cervix and it’s closed, good news. But the bad news is I have what’s called a subchorionic hemorrhage. It’s basically the gathering of blood between the membranes of the placenta and the uterus. There’s no known case, and there is no treatment. The blood clot can bleed out, or it can irritate the cervix and cause a placental tear. The good news is the hemorrhage is very small. So I was sent home, with instructions for pelvic rest and to avoid any strenuous activities.

Once I got home, I passed a huge, quarter sized clot, which scared me to death. But after reading about SCH, I found that it’s really common to pass clots. It is just the hemorrhage working its way out of my body.

Monday the 15th we went to the doctor, where she did another ultrasound, and we saw that the baby was growing right along schedule. She prescribed progesterone and said to continue to take it easy until further notice. The bleeding has all but stopped, and she reassured us that it was a very small SCH and will mostly resolve on its own.

The other crazy thing was that yolk sac in this really bad ultrasound picture makes it look like there are two babies. But the doc assured me that there is only one.

As of today, I’m 7 weeks, 3 days with our little Piglet. Happily growing in my belly.
