10 Things to Smile About-November ’14

1.  Taking family photos made me smile.

2. Hiking at Jack London Park with our old neighbors made me smile.

3. Visiting the Sacramento Train Museum with Good Family and watching our boys play was definitely smile worthy.

4. Deciding to move to Oregon made me scared, but also made me smile. I love that we are starting this new adventure!

5. Thanksgiving with Match’s family,  and seeing Match’s dad make such huge progress with his health. He was so much better than the last time we saw him, and it made us both feel so much better about moving away. We know he’s going to get past this, and we’re slowly getting him back. He was so good with Piglet, and it was so nice seeing them bond.

6. Celebrating this adorable boy’s half birthday. I can’t believe he’s a year and a half already!

7. Our trip to Oregon had me smiling from ear to ear. The last minute  lunch meet up with my parents was icing on the cake of our trip. Watching my parents with their youngest grandbaby made my heart happy.

8. Celebrating Thanksgiving with Match’s family where Piglet got to meet his cousin for the first time. It was cute watching them play together.

9. Watching MockingJay Part 1 with Geeky made me smile. I’m going to miss her so much. We promised to keep up the tradition of seeing the movies together, even if we have to fly to visit each other to do it!

10. Watching Piglet “help” pack. Anyone have any advice for moving with a toddler? Seriously, it’s a good thing he’s so cute. 🙂

Jack London Park Hike

Last week, we were able to get together with our old friends, Neighbor Couple. We decided to meet up at Jack London Park to take the boys for a walk. It’s one of my favorite parks, and it’s been years since Match and I have hiked there. It was so fun watching our boys interact together.

I love Sonoma County in the fall. It was way too hot out (84 degrees, boo) but the colors of the leaves were beautiful.

It was great spending time with our friends in a beautiful spot. Looking forward to the next hike!

Piglet’s First Christmas

Phoebe: And I heard him say, as he flew out of sight, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!”
Joey: Wow, you really wrote that?
Phoebe:Uh-huh. -Friends

Every year since we first started dating, Match and I have always had a “mini” Christmas with just the two of us. We like to pick a morning that will be our very own Christmas morning, complete with stocking exchange, where we don’t have to share it with anyone else. We decided this year should be no different, and we picked Monday morning, the 23rd, as our mini family Christmas. I think once Piglet gets older we’ll have to save the stocking and a santa gift, or maybe leave a note so Santa knows to come a few days early. 😉 I think this will be good practice for all the Christmases Match will miss because of work.

We opened presents, and it was like Piglet was an old pro. He tore into those gifts with reckless abandon.

That evening, my Dad and stepmom came over to spend the night. It was my Dad’s first time ever meeting Piglet. It was way past bedtime when they arrived, but Piglet was too excited to sleep. He had a Grandpa to meet!

The next morning we had biscuits and gravy, an old family tradition on my dad’s side of the family. Then it was off to the park so Piglet could show off his swinging skills. That night we packed up the car and headed to the in-laws. We spent Christmas eve and Christmas night at their house. Christmas Eve we started a new tradition: reading The Night Before Christmas to Piglet before bedtime.

Christmas morning he was ready for presents! My MIL went a little nuts with presents. She always spoils us, so you can imagine how overboard she went for her first grandson. The wheely tiger was a hit, as was the wooden walker that he will grow into. It’s beautiful!

Christmas day we went to one of Match’s aunt and uncle’s home for the day. We went on a nature walk and took some of my favorite pictures of Piglet. He gets so happy when he’s outside, just like his Mommy and Daddy! Oh, and yes we are all wearing plaid. We’re awesome like that!

He got a little overwhelmed from all the noise during our Pirate Christmas game. We took him back to the in-laws early, and he went right to sleep. Match and I were able to enjoy having the house to ourselves for a little bit. We played Yahtzee, drank wine, and listened to classical Christmas music. Annnnd then, Piglet woke up. And continued to wake up every TWO HOURS til morning. Poor little man, and poor us! I think he was just so overwhelmed by all the activity. We ended up letting him sleep with us, a first for our family. Overall, he was such a trooper, and he was in great spirits in the morning. Here he is, bright and early. He couldn’t wait to play with his wheely tiger.

We stopped by for a visit with our friends former Neighbor Couple to visit with their little one and see their new house, which is really close to the in-laws’ house.

By the time we got home, Piglet was so excited to see his crib. He slept like a champ, and was all Christmas-ed out. It was a wonderful holiday, and I couldn’t have asked for a merrier Christmas. I know it’s a little late, but Merry Christmas to all, and I hope you had a great holiday with your loved ones.

Match’s 28th Birthday Party

Turk: I’m not telling Isabella she’s got a vagina until she’s 18!
Kim: That’s gonna be an awkward birthday party.
Turk: Do not tell my daughter she has a vagina! I’m serious! [Points threateningly at Elliot, J.D. and Kim] Hm? Hm?! Hmmm?!?
J.D.: It may have already come up. –Scrubs

We had a nice mellow birthday party for Match’s 28th birthday.

We invited a bunch of Match’s coworkers and everyone got along great. I finally got a chance to meet the girl Deputy that Walking Couple and the other deputy wife were so worked up about. It was just like we all suspected, this Lady Deputy was absolutely harmless! She was sweet and funny, and she brought along her boyfriend, whom she’s been with for years. I didn’t feel threatened by her in the slightest.

I can’t say the same for the other deputy wife, Miss Insecure. She showed up dressed to the nines. She was completely over the top dressed up for a casual house party. I was pretty sure it was all for Lady Deputy, to make sure she knew what was up. She threw her daggers all night with her eyes, and huddled in the corner at one point with Walking Buddy gossiping. Sassy and I just rolled our eyes and ignored the whole thing. After Miss Insecure and her hubby left, the party was a lot more fun. Walking Buddy relaxed and had a great time.

Neighbor Girl made a rare appearance. I haven’t seen her since our housewarming party, even though they live just 6 minutes away. I hadn’t told her about Roo yet, so I made this big deal of wanting to take her on a house tour and show her all the updates we’ve done. I brought her into the nursery and pointed out the baby socks and framed ultrasound photo. She got really excited and then said, “Guess what? I’m pregnant too!” Not only is she preggers, but we’re about a week apart! What are the odds? We were both so excited to have someone else going through the exact same stages of pregnancy. She apologized for being MIA but after finding out she was afraid to hang out for fear of telling me too early. I know that feeling all too well.

All in all it was a great, relaxed night with good friends. I can’t wait to get together with everyone again.

A Wonderfully Full and Warm House

Pete: (To Berg) We’re having a surprise housewarming party for Johnny and Sharon.
Germ: I don’t have the address.
Pete: Well, meet me at the party and I’ll give it to you there. –Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place

The first Saturday of this month, Match and I hosted an open housewarming party. Our house was meant to be filled with people. It felt so warm and cozy, surrounded by our loved ones. The house was full of laughter, little ones running around playing, and most of all, love.

I had so much fun making some of the Christmas decorations for the party. Instead of wine charms I went to the dollar store and got a bunch of wine glasses and painted them with Christmas themes. I decided to keep them for next year, because you know I will be having another Christmas party!

Then I got the idea to paint one of my favorite quotes from the movie Elf. It turned out crooked but I figure that just adds to the charm right? 😉

I also got some inspiration from pinterest, which actually came from this blog. I spray painted old wine bottles, added sticks I found in the driveway, and voila. This little centerpiece was completely free!

You can’t quite tell from the picture but there is glitter on the bottles and they sparkle slightly.

Match’s mom brought us the essential entryway adornment.

Here’s the table with all the goodies.

It cracks me up that no matter the size, everyone always ends up in the kitchen.

Good Couple came and Good Wife showed off her baby bump. Did I mention she’s pregnant with TWINS? First time mama…she is going to be a busy bee!

Monkey says…please someone just throw the ball!

Monkey made us proud by being VERY patient with the boys. I was nervous because he’s not around kids that often but he was so good. Look at him with Moose’s girlfriend’s son. He was loving all the food he dropped. Look at the grin on his face in this picture. Doesn’t he need a little boy best friend? I think so.

Here’s Couple Toddler giving him loves.

Neighbor Couple were also there but I didn’t manage to snap their picture.

At the end of the night, it was just Couple Family (minus Couple baby who stayed home) and us. We curled up on our comfy furniture and visited. Match and Couple toddler had a blast goofing off. Look at the way Match lights up around kids. Is that not the cutest thing?

Watch out, Uncle Match loves to eat baby toes!!

We also had our first family photo in the new house.

It was an awesome house warming and hopefully just the first of many more parties to come.
