Snow, Belly Bumps, and Family

Hodgins: I always wanted to be a mad scientist! I’m living the dream, baby! [kisses her cheek] Baby! [kisses her belly]
Angela: So what do you want our kid to be, anyway? I mean, if we could decide and make it happen without being those annoying parents that we hate.
Hodgins: Anything I want?
Angela: Anything.
Hodgins: A musician. Hard rock and 50s West Coast jazz. Who is also an astrophysicist specializing in extra terrestrial studies. Who also has a secondary degree, not necessarily a doctorate, in 20th century political theory and its relationship to corporatism. Ooh, who also does killer stand-up on the weekends. What about you? What do you want our baby to be?
Angela: [smiles] A mad scientist sounds good to me. –Bones

We’re back from our mini vacation in Ashland. We had a great time visiting with family. My parents got a hotel room next to ours and our dogs got to play together. My mom said it was really weird to see her baby girl with a baby on the way. I should mention that this week my belly decided to pop. It was the first time I truly looked pregnant and I’m glad I was able to show off my bump.

The first night we spent at my aunt and uncle’s house. I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but my cousin and his girlfriend are expecting a baby too! She is due two weeks before me. It’s crazy to think that these babies will be so close in age. It makes me happy to know my Roo will have a cousin to buddy up with at family functions.

First thing we had to do was the obligatory belly bump picture. Is it just me or do I look way bigger than her? I guess it’s how we’re carrying. She is taller than me, but still! I think my bump sticks out like a torpedo while hers is wider. Everyone thinks she’s carrying a girl, and now they say I’m carrying a boy. Like carrying has anything to do with gender. It’d be kind of funny if it turned out to be true!

Notice my cousin sticking out his belly. I told him he might be joking now but just wait! Match has started eating right along with me, and I won’t be surprised if he gets a bump if his own. 🙂

The next morning we woke up and peeked out the hotel window to find SNOW! It was so pretty! It’s ironic that when we went to Tahoe we didn’t have any snow, and here it is practically spring and now there is snow. I wanted to play in it!

We wandered around in downtown Ashland and spent some quality time with my parents.

How cute is Monkey in his little jacket? His California blood isn’t used to all this cold weather!

We explored Lithia park. I think it looks like Narnia, all covered in snow.

That night we watched my cousin play in his percussion recital at Southern Oregon University. Some of the music was a little bizarre for our taste, but some of it was awesome. Either way I think my cuz rocked the drums!

When we got home Monkey immediately curled up in his pet crates. How cute is he all snuggled with his turtle? We had such a great visit and I can’t wait to see my family again. My aunt is hoping to make a road trip with my mom to see me for the baby shower. I really hope they can make it!

If We Could Redo Our Wedding

Maxine: AMY!
Amy: WHAT?
Maxine: Come out here and let me see it. My wedding, I get to see the bridesmaid’s dresses.
[Amy steps into room, with a scowl on her face]
Maxine[laughing] Did you leave your curds and whey in the dressing room?Amy: I don’t care what Gillian says, I’m not wearing this dress. –Judging Amy

I’ve been a busy bee the past few days working on crafting projects for Sassy Girl’s bridal shower and helping her plan all of the wedding details. Thinking about her wedding has me daydreaming of mine. I loved my wedding; it was incredible. Of course, I think every girl thinks about what they would do if they were given the opportunity to do it all over again.

Even though I loved my dress, it’s still fun to browse for cheap wedding dresses just to see what options are available now.  I also think of what it would have been like if I had a bridal party. It was so nice and simple not having to deal with bridesmaids, but it would have been so fun picking out cheap bridesmaid dresses for them to wear. I could have gone with a vintage theme and done adorable 1950s style dresses like this in black:
Then to go with the theme I would have had to check out  vintage wedding dresses as well. Wouldn’t this have been cute?
Still I’m so happy with what we ended up with. It’s just fun to dream. Maybe one day we’ll renew our vows and I’ll get to wear another pretty dress. 😉

TTUT-We Get to See Roo Today!

I’m linking up with the ever fabulous Impulsive Addict and Seriously Shawn.

It’s finally here! Detailed Ultrasound day! I feel like it’s Christmas morning.

I’m so excited to see our little Roo. I can’t wait to see him/her wiggling around. I’m a little nervous about the ultrasound, just because I can’t stand the uncomfortable feeling of having to pee and holding it. My big pregnancy symptom as of late has been having to pee ALL.THE.TIME. I’m scared because I know this will only get worse. I’m already up between 5-7 times a night. I can count that as part of my exercise right? 😉

Hopefully little Roo will be developing nicely and there won’t be any concerns. I can’t help but worry, because that’s what I do. I will feel so much better after we’ve seen our sweet little Roo dancing. And hopefully that wonderful sight will distract me from my full bladder. I just hope I don’t wind up getting so excited that I pee on the examination table.

Friday Daydreamin’-Oregon in the Spring

[narrating the play, with Rose acting out Henny Penny’s actions] Once upon a time, on a beautiful spring day, Henny Penny was waking up from a nap under an oak tree, when an acorn fell from the tree and hit her on the head. [fake paper acorn hits Rose on the head] Funny, when I was a little girl in Sicily and they told this story, it was a safe that fell on her head. –The Golden Girls

This week Becca asked us what spring means and our vacation plans. I’m still stunned that it’s already March. I’m daydreaming of our spring trip we’re taking later this month up to Oregon. We originally planned the trip just to see my cousin’s concert at SOU. He’s a music major and incredibly talented. Roo is going to hear his/her first classical music live!

Now unexpectedly it looks like my parents might be getting time off work to join us. We haven’t seen them in 4 months and I’m so excited. I didn’t think we’d be able to see them at all during my pregnancy. We’re hoping to rent out a vacation home together for two nights. I can’t wait!

The last time we were up in that area was the summer before our wedding. It was such a blast! I know it won’t be as warm as in the summer, and there won’t be any fishing my chunky butt out of the pool with pool nets but I’m kind of relieved. I’m ready for spring but I’m not ready for the heat! I’m daydreaming of fresh crisp Oregon air, beautiful green parks and quality family time.

12 Weeks-Energy is BACK!

This mural is so much more fun to look at than a blank wall. Heidi: I literally feel like we are in a playhouse. -Spencer, The Hills

How Far Along: 12 weeks (according to my calendar, hopefully the doc will agree at next ultrasound)
Size of Baby: Plum
Bump Watch:

Don’t mind me in the second picture. I had just finished painting all day so I was wrecked. I definitely see a difference in the bump, but maybe it’s wishful thinking?

Cravings: anything sweet! I never like junk food cereal but lately I’ve been eating lucky charms like crazy.
Food Aversions: tomatoes and most meats don’t really appeal but I eat them anyways
Symptoms:  I didn’t post it, but at 10 weeks I got my first real official case of morning sickness. It was night time, and I was out to dinner with a friend. I had just eaten  brushetta, and all of a sudden I felt sick. I dashed to the restroom and I’m pretty sure the tables nearby thought I was bullemic. I’m just lucky I made it. I’ve since felt queasy, but no more actual sickness. I ate soda crackers like it was my job. Luckily about midway through last week the nauseated feelings disappeared! Woohoo!
I’m also a lot more awake and my energy level has gone way up. I’ve managed to finish Roo’s stocking:

and I’m almost done with the tree mural! I’ll give you a tiny sneak peek. Match drew out the sketch freehand. That man is amazing! Then I did the painting. We’re waiting til we find out the gender to do the leaves. I have very different ideas depending on what we’re having.

Next up is the height chart! I’m off to get supplies for that at the craft store. I want something I can move if Roo later decides he or she doesn’t like the chart in their room. I’m so excited to be at the end of this trimester. I will really breathe easier after our next appointment, but I have nothing but good feelings. Hopefully the doc will take me off pelvic rest soon. I haven’t had any spotting in the last few days and I’m feeling great!
