Slash Your Wedding Bill in Half

Weddings are expensive; everyone will tell you that. When I got married five years ago, I wasn’t ready for just how expensive it was. However, there are always steps you can take to make sure you are getting a good deal. Here are some ideas to help you slash your wedding bill.

Design your invitation yourself

As soon as your fiance puts a ring on it, and you have a date and venue set, don’t just head off to a fancy invitation printing company. Save a bundle by creating your invitations yourself. You can bring out your creative side and inject a bit of personality into your invites. There are a load of free wedding invitation templates online that you can make use of when you get started.

Plan your starting time carefully

If your wedding begins early, the chances are that your guests will expect you to provide lunch and dinner for them. You can, of course, choose not to, but you don’t want all of your guests to be starving throughout the day. Just set your starting time back a little bit, so that your guests know to take care of their own lunch. Then you only have to pay for one big meal.

Keep music costs to a minimum

If your budget doesn’t stretch to a full band or DJ, think about creating your own playlist. On your iPod, you can create a playlist that will play through the night. If you don’t have a lot of music, think about getting a Spotify subscription for the event and using that to create a playlist. This way you will save so much money, and be totally in charge of the music choices.

Pre-wedding workout

Many brides and grooms like to lose weight before their big day so they look their absolute best And prepare some wedding veils. Don’t fork out for an expensive gym membership when you can train for free. Go for a run in your local park, eat healthier and try YouTube training videos.

If you want to have a limo, many limo hire companies charge by the hour. If this is the case, try to make your driver go through less stops if possible. Tell all your bridesmaids or groomsmen to meet you at one location (your home, maybe?). This way the limo driver won’t have to drive around to pick everyone up. And it will be fun for everyone to get ready together.

Book for the weekdays

Most people choose to get married on a Saturday. Admittedly it is a lot more convenient for people who have to travel to get to your wedding. Plus you have the Sunday to recover and have a secondary event if you want to. However, because Saturday is so convenient, it is the most expensive day to get married on. Try a Friday or Sunday if you can. Or it would be even cheaper to get married on a Wednesday!

Do you really need flowers?

When I got married, I was surprised to find out how expensive flowers can be. Since then I have seen so many fantastic alternatives which are a whole lot cheaper.
