The Back Deck Project

We finally tackled the back deck painting project. It was quite the undertaking, and my arms, neck and shoulders are so sore, but it was worth it! It took us two weeks, but it’s finally done. Β I am so happy with how it turned out! I do wish we’d just coughed over the money to have our painter do it, but we saved quite a bit by doing it ourselves. It might not be perfect, but I’m proud of our hard work. Here’s a couple of the before shots. When we first moved in, I hated the red color, and really wanted to change it. I never thought about changing the trim, but I’m so glad we painted that as well. P1050626 First Match had to replace a few of the boards, and tighten everything down. It’s so much more sturdy than it was before! I love that you can walk across it without all the creaking. I also love that he replaced some of the cracked wood that was sticking up. I was so worried that Piglet would get hurt when he played near the deck. DSC_0042

Here’s Match hard at work. DSC_0587 While Match did the heavy lifting, I did all the painting. It was exhausting! There was so much to paint, and of course white as a trim color is never easy. It took far more coats than I’d like to admit. I also may have tripped over the paint can and spilled it everywhere.Β I’m not known for my coordination! It was also slow going because I was working only during nap times. It made the project drag on, but in the end it was worth it.

Piglet really really wanted to help his daddy with the saw.

Here’s a look at the deck when we first bought the house, and a look at it now.

deck I am so amazed by the transformation. With the new windows, new house paint color, and updated deck, along with our landscaping, it doesn’t even look like the same house to me. At first I was a little nervous about the blue color. It’s just so…blue! But now I am in love with it. DSC_0621 DSC_0623 Of course now that we have this pretty deck, all I can think about is some nice outdoor furniture to put on it. I would love either a conversation set or a nice outdoor dining table. But for now we’ll just enjoy all the open space. After we finished the project, I had to have a little photo shoot with Piglet. He had way too much fun sitting in the chair like a big boy. Β It also cracked me up that he happened to be wearing a onesie that matched the new deck color. DSC_0608 DSC_0611

Here we all are, enjoying our new deck! I snapped the one of Match and Piglet before they saw me. How cute are they? Two men, just relaxing outside. πŸ™‚

What a transformation! Love the blue ~ you guys did a GREAT job! I can’t imagine how much work that must have been, but in the end, it’s well worth it and you can say that you did it yourselves. OMG, that picture of Match and Piglet. Too cute! Glad you are enjoying the summer πŸ™‚

It looks amazing! Kind of beachy, and I love it! Painting or at least restaining our deck will be something we will have to do eventually, but is not up on the priority list. I hope we can do just as good of a job πŸ˜‰
