We just got back from our trip to Carmel Wednesday night, and already this heat is getting to me. The weather in Carmel was perfect: nice cool mornings, followed by sunny days that were never hotter than 75, and deliciously cool nights. Now we’re back in the high 90 temps, where it doesn’t cool down til way past our bedtime. Booooo!
The trip was a lot of fun, but it started off pretty shaky. I was feeling incredibly irritated and hormonal. My hormones are all over the place, and I’m sure a lot of you mamas can commiserate with me! It was a combo of lack of sleep and hormones, and jealousy at how easy Daddies have it! Match was in vacation mode, and I think he forgot that sometimes Mommy needs a little break too. I also dealt with some disappointment on the MIL front. I think I expected a little more help than she was willing to give, and that’s fine. We are all learning our roles, and I’m learning that she isn’t as hands on a grandma as either Match and I expected her to be. Perhaps when he’s a little older she will be. Or maybe we just need to learn to ask!
After a great heart to heart and some hugs from Match, I felt a lot better. He made sure to help me out a lot more the rest of the trip, and I think we found that balance of caring for our little man, with neither parent feeling they were being overworked. We even managed to have a lunch date. We had hoped we could leave him with Grandma, but she was busy playing hostess to their friends that were visiting, so we took Piglet along. He gave us a break and slept the entire time! Gotta love that 🙂 I love Match’s grump face-he wasn’t even remotely mad in that picture. Dork!
We went to the beach a couple of times:
went hiking at Point Lobos:and enjoyed the company of Match’s parents, his sis-in-law and fiance, and Match’s parents best friends that came all the way from the east coast. More importantly, Piglet got to show off his adorable clothes, and his adorable personality to his family. I mean seriously, how cute is this little man? It was nice to get a break from the heat, and to enjoy the beauty that is Carmel. I’m already looking forward to next year!
