We managed to squeeze in a lot of activity in just 5 short days in Oregon. One of the days, Match and I took Piglet to meet some old high school friends of mine that I hadn’t seen in 12 years!
We’ve stayed in touch through Facebook and emails, but it was so nice to see each other face to face. We met up at a coffee shop, and then took a walk in this beautiful park nearby. It was my favorite place to go to growing up, and it was just as beautiful as I remembered it. Match had never been there, and he was pretty impressed. I’m glad my old friends got the chance to meet Piglet, and I hope we get to see them again soon.
That night Piglet got to meet more family: my Pops’ cousins. They were pretty smitten with Piglet, especially when he babbled and cooed at them.
We really wanted to hike around on my parents’ property, but the mosquitos were terrible this year, and would swarm us the minute we stepped outside. Luckily they weren’t bad in town, and near the beach. The weather was perfect-not too hot and not too cold. We saddled Piglet up in his ergo and set out.
This is one of my favorite family photos. I love the gorgeous background, and the fact that Piglet is holding onto my shirt. It’s so sweet! Plus Match is rocking his vacation beard, and mama like!
During the visit, I also managed to loosen up enough to let my mom watch Piglet while Match and I had some alone time. We went riding on the atv and horsed around a bit. I know how important it is that Piglet gets used to being around other people. It was definitely harder on me to trust someone besides Match with him, but she was a great and very patient Grandmother. It helps that Piglet is a pretty easy baby! It was nice getting that one on one time with my husband too. It’s so easy to get caught up being a mom and forget that I’m a wife too!
We made a pit stop to check out the little cypress tree that we planted last year in honor of Roo. It’s growing nicely, and it makes me smile that there’s a little piece of her here on the farm with Gamma and PopPop.
On our last day the mosquitos finally calmed down a bit and we were able to get outside the house with Piglet. We decided to introduce Piglet to the goats. With Daddy he was a little scared, maybe because Daddy was nervous that the goats were going to eat him.
But with Mommy I think he felt more confident. He seemed to think they were alright. The next visit I just know he’ll be wanting to get in the pen with them and ride them around.
This visit to Oregon was so much fun. On the way home Match said it was the best visit he’s had with my parents, and I agreed. We were all relaxed, and our hearts were lightened, unlike our trip up the previous April. We now know that Piglet is a good little traveler, and we are even more excited to go on more adventures together as a family!
