The Backyard Project

Mike O’ Donnell: It’s just that I put a lot of work in this yard.
Scarlett O’Donnell: Did you? Really? Like the barbecue pit? Yeah, the way I remember that is that you spent about an hour working on it and then you spent the next two days complaining about how “If you had gone to college then you could have had hired someone else to do it”. -17 Again

I’ve been meaning to post about this, but things have been pretty busy lately. Match and I finally updated our backyard. It’s still a work in progress, but I’m so happy with what we’ve done so far.

Here is the yard when we first started working on it. After our hellaciously hot summer, and broken irrigation system (Match fixed it eventually) we lost the grass in the backyard. It didn’t help that we have only hard clay rather than dirt.

You have to appreciate the work in progress shot. Notice the muscle tee and the jeans with the hole in the crotch? Is it wrong that I find this look sexy?

We put down pavers, flagstone, and gravel and we now have a fire pit circle.

I can’t wait for cold fall nights and cozying up next to the fire.  Did I mention we got the pavers put down, and the gravel filled in, in just TWO DAYS?! We worked like crazy, and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

In the spring we’ll be putting in new grass on the other half of the yard. We’re also hoping to build a few Adirondack chairs to go around the fire pit. We also want to add potted plants for a little color.  I can’t wait for cool fall weather so we can enjoy our updated backyard!

I love what you guys did. And you will love the fire pit! We use ours even in the summer. We just like to burn things. ;o) Good job getting it all done yourself, too. That was a JOB!
