Taking a Hike

Hailey: And you’re hiking out in biker boots and jeans?
Dean: Sweetheart, I don’t do shorts.-Supernatural

Match and I went on couple of big hikes this past month. The first one we took was to Mount Tamalpais, to attempt to escape the heat. It worked til about midday, and then the sun came out in full force. Can I tell you how nice it has been to get out of the house on a weekday, instead of tolling away in the office as a pc mechanic? I love that we never battle crowds on our mid week outings.

Here’s us with the marine layer still out. The cool air felt amazing!

Me, being the graceful lady that I am, slipped and fell about five minutes into our hike. Ouch!

While we were hiking along, we happened to see a mountain lion! Luckily it was pretty far away. It was still a little spooky, but also kind of awesome to see one out in the wild like that.

Here’s the view from the top of the mountain. We could see the entire bay. We really rock those matching camo hats don’t we?

The second hike we did this month was today, on the other side of the bay, Mount Diablo. This was supposed to be a leisurely hike, that turned strenuous at the end. It was only 3.67 miles one way, so we thought it’d be pretty easy. Little did we know that the last few miles were UP. We were also delusional and thought that it would be cooler because of the marine layer. Boy were we wrong!

Here is the start of the hike, with all of that lovely shade.

Mid-hike break for a sweaty kiss.

Starting the really steep part of the climb.

There is something to be said about tackling something physically demanding. Pushing through the pain and finishing a goal feels amazing. That’s how it felt to reach the top of that trail.

The cold shower, beer, and foot rub I had from Match all made the hike worthwhile.  I love that Match is my hiking buddy, and I’m looking forward to our next trek. Hopefully the weather will start cooling down so they’ll be a bit more enjoyable, and less us battling heat stroke!

Wow! The view from Tamalpais is gorgeous!! I want to go hiking with you!!

The mountain lion thing is freaky! Even though he was far away, he probably could have made it to you guys in no time! Scary!!!

Those views are worth the pain. And yes, you do look cute in those camo hats.

Wow, what beautiful pictures!! I can’t believe you were that close to a mountain lion…eerie for sure! This post has inspired me to want to go hiking in the Gatineau Hills – I live so close, yet haven’t been up hiking in years. Such a shame! I must go, especially once the fall leaves start to turn – so pretty!! 🙂

so much fun! the views are so beautiful 🙂 (well except for the mountain lion, haha).
