[Jack comes in dressed as an alien.] Will: sherif , after closer examination, I believe I have identified the lifeform as … gaylien. Grace: We come in peace. Please do not rearrange our furniture. – Will and Grace
This three day weekend Match and I decided to stay home instead of going up north to see family and friends. He’s been fighting a cold bug and I am still all splotchy, although slightly less itchy (yes!). I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to tackle some things on my Project 52 list. Yesterday we did #47: Swap our bedroom and office. This one takes a little bit of explaining.
Our rental home is awkward. We love it and we’re so glad we found it, but much like a 13 year old boy going through puberty, trying to rid his acne with www.acnetreatments.com, it’s awkward. The layout is super funky. The only door to the patio is through the back bedroom which we decided was the master bedroom. It’s only slightly larger than the other room in the house and has a bathroom off of it, so it is technically the master.
You see how close it is to the kitchen? If one of us is asleep and the other one attempts to make coffee or breakfast it’s impossible not to wake the other one up.
There is the “master” bath. You see how there is only the shower stall and no tub? It’s really hard to shower at the same time, something we both enjoy. Also, note the door. That is the door that leads to our outdoor space. Weird right?
Here is the other bathroom, the “guest” bathroom. It is actually a lot bigger and has a shower/tub while the “master” bath has only a shower and a really small sink. The guest room is also the only room in the house with carpet, and has a ceiling fan. So last weekend I was looking at decorating websites and told Match, “Hey, why don’t we move our bedroom?” I expected him to tell me I was crazy and that everything was fine the way it was but he agreed with me. So this weekend we played musical bedrooms.
Here’s how it used to look, and please don’t mind the mess. This is Match’s domain and where he keeps all of his academy stuff so I let him keep it pretty cluttered. He’s actually pretty neat considering the lack of free time he has.
The oober cluttered desk. This I decided to fix when we moved the office to the other room.
Match’s uniform wardrobe. I call it the no dog hair zone. They are enveloped in a force field of protection. That’s also where he dumps his pjs when he changes for work.
So after a few hours of work, here is what the master looks like now.
We now have carpet under our feet for those late night potty trips. How I love carpet under my toes at night!
It’s smaller, but it’s so cozy. Our bed is also now under the window to the backyard rather than the street so we’ll have a lot less noise. We just need to put up the curtains and we’re all moved in.
And here is the new spare room/office/Match’s ready room.
I love that guests will no longer be walking through our master bedroom to get the backyard. I also love all of the natural light that comes into that room. It’ll be a much better space for me on the days I work from home.
