“Hamburger bad, french fries, bad, coca cola, bad…there I said it. Drink your water people!” -Tony Horton, P90X
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been trying to get in shape for the wedding. Well Match finally went ahead and bought the P90X dvds. I’m sure most of you have seen at least one or two of the infomercials about these fitness dvds. Match is determined to get “ripped” before the wedding. He’s already in great shape, but who am I to deny letting the man give himself an 8 pack for me? 😉
I decided I’d join him on this 90 day workout challenge. I’m doing the lean program while he works on gaining muscle. The wedding is a definite motivation to get fit, but also having Match working out with me helps so much. I’m so happy that I’m with someone who is so interested in staying fit. In the past I always dated guys who made me more lazy, less healthy. I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been in terms of what I eat, the rest I get, and working out. I may not be the skinniest, but I am finally realizing that skinny doesn’t always mean healthy.
Match is really motivating, but because of our different programs, we work out separately. He works out in the mornings, and I work out when I get off work. Consequently, while I’m working out, he’s usually nearby and likes to critique me. I don’t know about you guys, but this drives me CRAZY! I know he’s just trying to help but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t throw one of the workout bands at his head during a “helpful suggestion”.
So we survived week 1 of the crazy workouts that are these dvds. After a week of high intensity cardio, weight lifting, countless jumping jacks, and downward dogs, I was so excited for the seventh day stretch dvd. I thought it’d be as relaxing as an Orlando vacation but the stretch was pretty tough too. It felt great though, and despite my soreness, I have to say my body feels better than it has in years. We’ll see what song I’m singing after day 30.
The program has you take progress pictures as you go along. We took pictures at day 1, and then we’ll take them again at day 30, 60, and 90. I’m contemplating sharing them with you on here, but I don’t know if I have the guts. Do you guys really want to see my gut anyways?!
So we’ll see how I feel about it at 30 days.
The workouts are fun and have you work different muscles every day which helps keep me going. Also, the instructor, Tony, is pretty funny. He makes little jokes all during the workouts like,
“Tip of the day, don’t smash your face.”
Of course these jokes are funny now, but after the 4 or 5th time hearing them I may not be laughing.
Have any of you started a workout program like this? Have you ever worked out with the encouragement of your partner? How did it go?
