Last night I went out with a group of new girlfriends for some long overdue girls time. These last few weeks have been pretty rough on me and I’ve been really missing having close girlfriends. Couple Wife had introduced me to these girls and I’ve hung out with them a handful of times but always in big groups. Monday I hung out with one of the girls one on one when she invited me to be her guest to a kick-boxing class. We hit it off right away and discovered we have a lot in common. I’ve nicknamed her Geeky because she loves all the geek things I love, like the Twilight Sage, Harry Potter, and Star Trek. It’s also ironic because she’s a gorgeous girl, very hip and you’d never suspect that she’s a geek.
This week has really picked up work wise and I haven’t been hating my place of employment quite as much as I used to. I’m working on a project that has not only kept me busy, but puts me in the running to get a bonus at the end of the month. Yay! I love that the days have gone by faster, but the busy work days have also made me exhausted. So when Geeky facebooked me inviting me to a girl’s night out on Friday I couldn’t say yes fast enough. She even offered to have me come over to her place early with outfit options and to relax with a glass of wine before we hit the town.
It’s funny but I get nervous when I hang out with new girls. Even though I’ve already met them, they’re still virtual strangers to me. I have always had a hard time fitting in with other girls, and as a tomboy I prefer hanging out with guys, but sometimes you just need that girl time. I wasn’t sure what to expect, because these girls have been friends since high school and I’m the outsider. When I got to Geeky’s place, her best friend was there and we lapsed into an easy and comfortable conversation. Turns out her best friend is going to the same fire fighter academy that Match graduated from. I never thought of her as a tomboy all of the other times I’ve met her, but she’s a bigger tomboy than me to be in such a male dominated field. Firefighter Chic, Geeky and I had a great talk about guys and the pros and cons of being single. FF Chic just got out of a 4 year relationship so she needed this girl’s night most of all.

We met up with another one of their girlfriends, Straight Edge (she doesn’t drink) and she drove us downtown to a club. We drank, laughed and danced the night away. I had a fairly good buzz going so parts of the night are fuzzy. I do remember slapping Geeky high five and screeching “BFFS!” and singing Journey at the top of our lungs.
Geeky and I dancing it up
I also remember flashing my ring around a LOT. That had to have been obnoxious. But I had just discovered that my diamond glows blue under the black light on the dance floor and the amount of vodka in my bloodstream made this extremely fascinating for me.
Geeky is dating a fireman who sounds a lot like Match, yet another thing we have in common. We both thought it was so nice to be able to go out with another girlfriend and not have one of us be preoccupied with scoping for guys. We also agreed that it’s so nice not to be there in the dating world. I do not miss that at all! We had a great time and Firefighter Chick got my number too and said we all need to hang out again soon. I hope we do-that girls night was exactly what I needed.
