The Guestbook Project

Carrie : Are you sure you can leave the Guest Book unattended?
Miranda : Its a bullshit job, Carrie. People know what to do with the guestbook. –Sex and the City

I’m working on a little project for my guestbook. It’s going to be a guestbook/scrapbook. I know you can order these online, but a. they were expensive and b. they weren’t exactly what I wanted. So I went out and bought this sketchbook:

Isn’t it adorable? I love the little birds and it ties in with the fall theme. I wish it wasn’t blue, but my wedding so far is lacking colors, so maybe the blue is a good thing. The pages are blank inside and I’m going to put headers on each page with a writing prompt. Every other page will one of the following prompts:

  • Advice for the Newlyweds
  • Words of Wisdom
  • Favorite Memory of the Happy Couple

The “meat” of the pages will be blank for the guests to sign their best wishes, or answers to the above prompts in a yearbook style of writing. Sort of like this:

If we were able to afford a photobooth for the reception, we would have done it like this. Alas, we cannot afford the booth, so I’ll be putting in the pictures after the fact. On the left side of the page, I’m going to draw rectangles as picture placeholders. Then at the footer of each page, or every other page, there will be a quote about love or about marriage. You know me and my love of quotes!

So here’s where you come in my dears. I’m sort of stealing this idea from the lovely Dandy over at Spontaneously Clapping (told ya I’d be taking this idea girl, hope you don’t mind!). What I want from you all are your favorite quotes about love, about marriage, or about relationships in general. I am going to use your quotes to fill the footers of this guestbook/scrapbook. A lot of you readers have been there from the beginning, following along with my relationship with Match. You’ve been a big part of my life, and why not be a part of the wedding too?

I want the end result to look similar to this mixbook scrapbook.

The pages won’t be lined, but they will either have quotes and a picture placeholder on one side, or quotes as footers, with signatures and writing in the middle on the right. Hopefully I can even match up some of the pictures with the guests who are signing the pages. I can’t wait to read what you think and to read your quotes! Also, if you have other writing prompt suggestions, feel free to add those as well.

First of all, I think your guest book is awesome, and I love the blue. Here are some of my fave quotes.

    Faith makes all things possible.
    Love makes them easy.

This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn
Is to love and be loved in return.

OH I love it!!! See I knew I wanted to do the photo guestbook but this totally expands on the idea! I may steal from you and do something similar. The picture of the book you got didn’t come up would love to see it. I’ll be thinking of quotes and get back to you 🙂

VERY creative! I love it and I think it’s going to be fabulous when you’re done.
Also, just a suggestion, but if you really want to do a photobooth type set up, a friend of mine who got married a couple years ago basically hung a white sheet and then had a camera set up on a tripod with an shutter remote for the people standing in front of the sheet to click. Then they had a prop trunk full of ridiculous glasses and hats and other things. (Actually my gravatar pic on my blog is from there!) It was HUGELY popular and a fraction of the cost of renting an actual photobooth. The pictures weren’t instant, but we could get them off the internet later.

“If I know what love is, it is because of you.”
    –Herman Hesse

“The life and love we create is the life and love we live.”
    –Leo Buscaglia

“I become a waterwheel, turning and tasting you, as long as water moves.”

    –Pablo Neruda

Here are some I like. Cool idea!

happy sits saturday! i don’t have a good quote for you, but i wanted to share an idea. we couldn’t afford to rent a photobooth, so we made our own. we set up our camera on a tripod in a small room at the reception venue. we had a huge basket full of silly costume props for folks to use, and a handpainted back drop. we left instructions, and folks went crazy with the pictures. we had people write notes for us, then matched their pics (we printed them after the honeymoon) up with their notes later to complete the book. it was super easy and so fun.

“Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner.” – Amy Bloom

“I love being married. It’s so great to find one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life.” – Rita Rudner

“Love is an ideal thing, marriage a real thing.” – Goethe

“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, and always with the same person.” – Mignon McLaughlin

“We love because it’s the only true adventure.” – Nikki Giovanni

“Love is friendship set on fire.” – unknown

Not sure if those are what you had in mind, but they’re something. I also wish I could impart some amazing piece of advice, but I don’t feel like I’ve been married long enough to offer that. I know you guys will be so happy though! 🙂
