Phoebe: Ninety percent of a woman’s pheromones come out the top of her head! That’s why women are shorter, so that men will fall in love when they hug them! [Ross is staring at Phoebe] Oh, come on, Ross, you’re a scientist. –Friends
Like I said in a previous post, Valentine’s Day isn’t a huge deal for Match and I. We didn’t buy each other gifts, but we did use the holiday as an excuse to do nice things together. With Match’s new schedule, time has been precious, especially weekend day time. Match got home from his night shift and offered to take me to a Valentine’s breakfast. It was a nice little change from the typical Valentine’s dinner, and far less crowded. I cheated from the diet and splurged on waffles. They were so delicious! After breakfast we went home and Match slept for the rest of the day while I worked on a little homemade project for him.
During our first year of dating, I took countless pictures. I also took lots and lots of video clips. On our first trip to Oregon to visit my folks, we documented almost the whole thing on Match’s video camera. So I spent the day going through all of our old clips, some of which I’d never even watched, and put them all together, with some photo clips and added a bit of music. I’m pretty proud of myself because it turned out amazing. If I wasn’t worried about showing my face (gotta wait til the wedding pics!) I would share the video with you. But it’s also over 40 minutes long and I know you don’t love me and Match that much. 😉 Watching the old video clips I was amazed by how much younger we looked just a little over a year and a half ago. Maybe I was using a better day cream then. I was also beautiful tanned and about 15 pounds smaller (I gotta get that figure back!).
As I went through the video, I added little captions and chapters. I started the video out with, “And then we fell in love, summer 2008”. It was so crazy because there are little moments the camera picked up on, moments where it was completely obvious that we were falling in love. My absolute favorite clip I will share with you guys, after the wedding picture. We’re slow dancing at Match’s cousin’s wedding, maybe a month after we started dating. We’re both gazing at each other with so much love in our eyes. So cheesy, but I don’t care!
I made Match a dinner of steamed artichokes and raviolis with pesto sauce. It wasn’t super fancy, but it was a treat for the both of us.
While we were eating dinner, I had the movie I made playing. Match was so touched by it. By the end we were both crying and laughing at the same time. Here’s what I wrote as the movie faded out, with the two of us dancing in slow motion, to the song, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, redone by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole:
Words can’t express how lucky I am to have you. I hope this video helped show you. Here’s to our next fifty years and beyond, of love, laughter, and being with you, my very best friend. I’m so happy I get to spend the rest of my days with you.
So how was everyone else’s Valentine’s Day? Did you do anything fun?
