Wedding Dress Shopping-Round 1

[Trying on wedding dresses] Oh, this dress is totally going to get me laid on my wedding night. -Lily, How I Met Your Mother

Yesterday Outdoor Girl and Couple Wife came with me for my first wedding dress shopping experience. I’ve never even gone wedding dress shopping with friends much less myself. I haven’t mentioned this before but I’m pretty modest, at least around girls. I know weird right? But I’m not the kind of girl who can pee in front of my girlfriends or change in front of each other. It’s weird but it’s a thing with me. So when I realized I would have to be getting undressed in front of a complete stranger while she wrestled me into chiffon I knew I was stepping into my own personal hell.

We went to a little shop that didn’t have a huge selection, but it gave me an idea of what I want. Couple Wife had reassured me that they would have slips for me to wear and a strapless corset so I wouldn’t have to fully derobe. The second part was true, but the were no slips. So there I am, in a thong because I didn’t want panty lines with the dresses, thinking I’d have a slip to cover up in. So I basically spent the afternoon mooning the sales associate. It was mortifying! Then at one point she had me take off the corset and bare boob it for a few dresses that didn’t need bras. UGH! She was very professional though, and I only blushed for half the day.

The dress shop we went to had a great deal of the day going on. All off the rack dresses were 30% of their sale price. Of course I’d have to make a decision that day, and I just couldn’t do it. I’ve still got some time, and I don’t want to settle on something that’s not THE dress. I did find a couple that I like, and I’ve narrowed down my style to two: mermaid and a-line. The problem is I’m incredibly short, so I need something that’s not going to swallow me. I’m also as big a clutz as Bella Swan, so I need a dress that I can move around in.

It was pretty fun hanging out with Couple Wife and Outdoor Girl and having such a girlie day. By the end of it I was pretty exhausted though. It didn’t help that I was extremely hung over from the night before! Outdoor Girl was a little bit grumpy, and she looked bored for most of it. The more I get to know her the more I realize that she’s very moody. She’s definitely got her good and bad days. She emailed me later to tell me she hadn’t been feeling good that day, so hopefully that’s all it was. I think I’ll bring different friends next time. I think it’ll be nice to have different people’s perspectives on dresses, and I won’t bore all my friends to death. It can’t be all that fun waiting while I get wrangled into complicated gowns.

I know traditionally members of the bride’s family go on this little outing, but with my mom in Oregon I couldn’t do that. I missed her more than I have in a long time yesterday. I think this is the one time I would really want her help with wedding planning. I’ve got the rest covered, but I always envisioned trying on gowns and showing them to my mom. Luckily Couple Wife took lots of pictures to share with her, and she can help me decide online.
Have you ever been dress shopping? What was the experience like for you?

All of those dresses are gorgeous. I’m so sorry your mom couldn’t have been there. But lucky you have such good friends to go with. I bet you mom was sad too! I really love the dress in the second picture. Beautiful.

Aww, I’m sorry your mom can’t be there for dress shopping. Too bad you can’t fly her out for a weekend?

My favorite is the dress in the third picture=)
