Game Playing With Match

Susie: Excuse me. Is your name Chandler?
Chandler: Uh, yes, yes it is.
Susie: Chandler Bing?
Chandler: Do you know me or are you just really good at this game? –Friends

Match and I are cut to the chase type people. We don’t play the typical dating games and I’m so glad for that. Maybe that’s why we work so well together. We do however love to play actual games. This weekend was filled with random drinking games that turned out to be a blast.

Friday night was our date night and we went out for a simple dinner. Afterward we went home and it was rainy and cold out, and we both didn’t want to just sit in front of the electronics like our wii, tv, and my laptop, as we do on a typical weeknight. We ended up inventing a little game called “Pennies” where we both sat on opposite sides of the room and tried to throw pennies into a cup. We came up with a point system and everything. It was silly yes, but also fun.

Then last night we went to Match’s parents house for dinner, where we played a board game called “Theories” where you read about different possible theories and decide which one is real. It’s kind of cool, and you’d be surprised at the real theories that are out there, some of them downright silly. After that, we got a call from Match’s Birthday Twin (Who I call Chandler because he’s a jokester and he loves the show Friends) who happens to live down the street from us. We dropped Monkey off at the house and then headed over to his house.

When we got there we immediately started cracking up at the game Chandler and his friends were playing. It was basically our game pennies, but instead of pennies they were tossing bottle caps into cups. Turns out I am good at pennies, but painfully bad at caps.

After the game we played “Community” which is really just King’s Cup, but this group calls it Community. It’s such a fun drinking game. I think what I like the most about it is you end up getting to know everyone, and you’re all talking together instead of off in your own cliques like at most parties. I used to play it in college all the time, and that’s how I got to know my friends. It was a great way for me to get to know Match’s friends a little better.
I forgot to blog about it, what with the proposal and all getting in the way, but we hung out with Chandler and Match’s group right before Christmas. They’ve all been friends since high school and they are a great bunch. I’ll blog more about them after Chandler and Match’s joint birthday party next Saturday!

Back to Community Cup: it’s not for the light drinker. We ended up staying up until 2 am playing that damn game. Chandler busted out a drinking BOOT for the game. No joke, it’s a glass shaped like a boot. Match and I stumbled the ten minute walk home laughing and acting like fools. This morning we woke up in PAIN. I have to keep reminding myself that I’m not 21 anymore. I have the wicked hangovers to prove it. Still, it was a great time, and I can’t wait til next Saturday’s party. I think this time I’ll be switching my beer with water every round!

King’s Cup was one of my FAVORITES when I was in college. I haven’t played it in years, but I’m pretty sure that I would have had the same painful reaction the next day.

Where does one purchase a drinking boot I wonder? That is just amazing haha!

Ahhh but those early stages of being 21 bring many hangovers themselves…I think I’ve been perpetually hungover for two weeks!
