J.D. I don’t want to do this! Can’t we just go home and put our PJ’s on and watch Grey’s Anatomy? -Elliot, Scrubs
New Year’s Day was our Christmas with Match’s parents. It was the first time the four of us had a chance to celebrate our engagement. I happened to luck out big time with the present I got Match’s mom too. I created one of those Mix Books and made a scrapbook for Match’s mom full of family pictures I’d taken over the past year. I started with my first Christmas with the family and ended it with Thanksgiving. I had no idea at the time that I would be a part of the family until after I’d made the album. After we got engaged I had time to open up the book and write a little message to Match’s mom on the inside cover. Here’s what it said:
“These are just some of many great memories to come. Words cannot express how happy I am to be a part of your family.” When she opened it she got really quiet, and then looked at me with tears running down her face. She gave me a huge hug and said she couldn’t even look at because her eyes were blurry. I started to well up too and we had this great mother-daughter-in-law moment. I’m so lucky to feel close to Match’s family.
Then it was time for our presents. Among some great presents from Match’s parents including serving bowls and other fun stuff for our kitchen, Match’s mom got us these adorable hats! We were cracking up when we put them on.
I got this cute woven beanie, and yes, that’s right. Match got a sock monkey hat!! I will confess, I’m sort of jealous. I will probably end up stealing it. But isn’t it just adorable?
After the giftie exchange we got to work on dinner. Match’s mom came up with this fun idea of having a pizza night. She got tons of ready made dough, all sorts of yummy ingredients and we each made our own pizzas. Here’s Match’s dad and I busy in the kitchen working on the pizza sauce.
We drank a lot of wine, and ate far too much pizza. The diet started the day after! I felt like I needed some medical equipment to help me get up off the couch after all that food and alcohol. Match’s mom set up their guest bedroom for us, so luckily we were able to crash there.
Match and I loved the hats so much that we decided to wear them on Saturday night. We were both dressed in our pjs and pretty comfortable, but bored sitting around the house. We decided it’d be kind of fun to walk to the nearby bar, but neither of us felt like dressing up. So we pajama suited up and went out.
Notice that Monkey is looking on with disapproval in his eyes. And finger guns, really Match? As if we weren’t embarrassing enough! We’re going to make our future kids miserable aren’t we?
We ended up at my favorite karaoke bar and I sang dressed in my ridiculous outfit. Match had people coming up to him all night and telling him how cool his hat was. You know you’re soulmates when you’re not afraid to go out in public looking incredibly stupid together. I love that I can be a complete dork with my Match! 🙂
