What I’m Thankful For

I am thankful for this beautiful fall we’ve been having. Yeah, the other day I was at the bus stop and this lovely fall breeze came in out of nowhere and blew this chick’s skirt right up. Oh, which reminds me. I am also thankful for thongs. -Joey, Friends

It’s that time of year again, Thanksgiving. It’s not about eating until we’re so full we can’t breathe. It’s not about Black Friday where every store has promotional items at crazy low prices (I will do some online shopping then, because, well, who can pass up those deals?!). What Thanksgiving is really about spending time with family, with the people we love, and being thankful for what we have.

This will be my second Thanksgiving with Match and his family. I’m excited for the day, but also nervous. As some of you read in a previous post, the last time I saw Match’s mom was an awful experience, and today’s Thanksgiving dinner will be the first time seeing her in person since that night. I’m going to go to dinner with a positive attitude, and hope that there is no akwardness between us. We have had plenty of fun family dinners together, and only one bad night, so hopefully it doesn’t even come up. Plus we’ll be with Match’s entire family, including his four aunts, their husbands, and all of his cousins, so we’ll be plenty distracted.

This morning I woke up early and prepared my famous stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer for the big day. I’m beginning to worry that Match’s family thinks it’s the only thing I know how to cook, because I’ve made it for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. But Match’s aunt requested them again this year, so at least I know they like ’em. Maybe in a few years I’ll be responsible for a side dish instead of just an appetizer, but for now I’m thankful for being able to kick back on this busy cooking holiday. I figure I should enjoy it while I can because soon enough I’ll be the one bustling around in the kitchen.

Every year on Thanksgiving I try to think of some of the things that I’m thankful for. Here’s just a few things I’m thankful for this year:

-Match and our giggle fests. I never thought I’d be able to be so goofy with a boyfriend.
-My sweet little puppy Monkey and his doggy smiles.IMG_6934
-My Family: despite being so far away, I feel close to them.
-Match’s Family living so close by. Since I graduated and moved away for college, my family has been at least an 8 hour drive away, and I’m so grateful that we have Match’s family just 20 minutes from us.
-Our friends: in particular I’m thankful this year for good girlfriends. I’ve gotten closer to Couple Wife, Outdoor Girl, and Baker Chick.
-This blog and all my blogger friends: This blog diary is a great outlet, and I’m still amazed that people out there want to read about my little life. You guys are so great, and this past year I’ve received so much comment love and support, thank you!

Your post reminded me I need to slow down and think of everything I’m thankful for…which is a lot.
