I’m Going Brunette

Karen: So, how they hangin’, honey?Candy: Well, thanks to Dr. Kipper, three inches higher. Listen. As much as I’d love to stay here sweatin’ with the oldies, I’m getting a little woozy from the booze-y seeping from your enlarged pores.Karen: Oh, honey, they’re not enlarged. They’re just in shock over that hair color. –Will & Grace

So last weekend when I was out to lunch with Couple Wife we got to talking about our hair. I have natural blonde hair, but the more erm..”honey colored” hair. Which means that in the summer it looks great, with all of these natural highlights from the sun making it shine. But in the winter, it gets dull and lifeless, and that’s where the dreaded “dirty dishwater” nickname comes in. Sadly, it is so true. So I told her I was actually thinking about going brunette.

Here’s a little glimpse at my hair color now.ƂĀ  It only really looks truly blonde when the sun catches it. Dishwater!!

Now here’s the hair back in July.

5250_547046592413_33200666_32582790_7010286_nSee the difference? If it were this color all the time, I’d love it. But alas, it is not.

Now, I don’t think I’ll go dark, but more of a medium brown, that will hopefully have some hints of red in the sun. Match really wants me to go red, but let’s face it, most bottled red heads look really fake. I think some blend of different hues should appease him without me looking like Bozo the Clown.

I’m taking the plunge this evening. CW is coming over and we’re going to shop around for the best color, and she’s going to dye it at home while our boys hang out and play the wii. CW has beautiful hair and she’s done the home dye job before so I trust that she won’t mess my hair up too badly.
I’ll post a before and after shot so you guys can see the results. I’ll have to get tricky with the camera since I’m not going to give you a glance at my face, even though I know you’re all dying to see what I look like right? šŸ˜‰ It’s really nothing to write home about. I just love my anonymity and the ability to write freely. I’ll try to have pictures posted tomorrow.
The only other times I’ve dyed my hair were in college, when I went to hot pink streaks, and then florescent red tips, but both were wash out dyes so not quite as big of a deal.
What about you? Have any of you ever gone from blonde to brunette? Or brunette to blonde, or some other color? Did you do it yourself or go into a salon?

I think your natural colour is lovely! I’m going to go red I think, I don’t mind it looking fake! šŸ™‚
You know, you could use a whole head shot and just blur out your face….

I’d err on the side of light brown haircolor. I use medium brown and it turns out pretty dark.

If I do allover color, I will do it at home, but I leave highlights to my stylist. My hair is so dark, she has to bleach out the highlights first. I’m afraid my hair will fall out if I did that!

Yup, I’d go at least a shade lighter than you think you want to…just to avoid shock to your hair!

I’ve never dyed mine at home, but plan to later this fall due to finances…

Visiting you from SITS–have a great day!

Well, you’re right. We’d all like to see who the “Date Girl” really is. But we’ll settle for just your hair. šŸ™‚

We’ve got some buzzcuts, crewcuts, mohawks, baldies, longhairs, but no one changing from blonde to brunette.

I only had blond highlights in my light brown hair (they used to be blond *sob*) and I went into a salon. I would be too afraid to do it at home myself.
I couldn’t stand it, if it wasn’t good. At least I saved money for going to the salon, because if I do it myself and it looks horrible I would have to go in anyway.

I went through SUCH HELL when I decided I wanted blonde highlights in my hair! I have natural chestnut, chocolate-y brown hair that actually is really beautiful but I never valued it, I suppose, because I tried to get blonde highlights in it to fade it to a brownish-blonde. Well, the highlights were expensive to keep up and I wanted my luscious brown locks back but everytime I re-dyed it brown the blonde would COME BACK THROUGH. It took me over a year of having gross brassy strawberry-ish highlights but finally my hair is almost back to its real color. What a nightmare! That being said, your brown will probably fade pretty quickly to show some of your blonde underneath, but Leighton Meester’s does that and it looks fantastic!
