There comes a point in your life when you’re officially an adult. Suddenly, you’re old enough to vote, drink, and engage in other adult activities. Suddenly, people expect you to be repsonsible, serious… a grown up. We get taller, we get older. But do we ever really grow up? -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy
In the craziness of these past few weeks, I haven’t blogged about my birthday! Gasp. Maybe it’s because turning 26 isn’t that special of a number for me. Or that it means I only have 4 more years till I’m 30. Or I’m just too darn busy! But anyways, my birthday celebration was spread out over about a week, and mellow, but fun.
The weekend before my birthday was the Beerfest, where I got to celebrate with Brazil, Old Married Couple and Best Friend. Then Sunday night, Match’s mom and I celebrated our birthday (we share the exact same birthday) at a nice dinner with his aunt, uncle, and dad. Match got me a pedicure gift certificate and an IOU for later. I told him it didn’t matter to me that he couldn’t get me more than that, I was just happy to be spending another birthday with him. He got me this incredible card that made me cry. He basically said that every day he feels closer to me, and he’s happier than he’s ever been, and knows that we’re right for each other, and how proud he is to be my boyfriend. 🙂
My actual birthday was on a Monday, and let me just say that if your birthday falls on a Monday, request the day off. It was probably the worst day I’ve had at work in a long time. Servers broke, I got frustrated, and it was non stop all day. Then I had class all night, and that was equally frustrating. So it didn’t really feel like my birthday. Match and I actually went to bed laughing about just how bad of a day it was. It was funny in an ironic, FML kind of way.
On Friday, Couple Friends had Match and I over as a belated birthday celebration. Couple Wife kept teasing me that we should have gone out to dinner and used my senior discount, and telling me that I should buy some
term life insurance since I’m getting so old. Stinker! I am one of her oldest girlfriends though, so she likes to tease. She spoiled me rotten and made this amazing dinner and then we sat up all night talking together. The two of us haven’t hung out since her Prom party back in July, so it was long overdue.
So now I’m a year older, and I definitely feel blessed for where my life is at. A lot has happened since last September, but it feels like lately everything is moving in the right direction. I definitely feel a lot older than I did at 24, and much closer to being an actual grown up. I know I’m still young, but I do feel like every year is flying by faster and faster the older I get. Oh, and I really hope that IOU from Match is something sparkly. 😉 Hopefully before my next birthday! 🙂
