Match’s Fire Academy Graduation

Phoebe: Come on, you and Greg? Put out any fires lately?
Piper: Is that supposed to be a subtle fireman reference?
Paige: Wait a minute. You’re going out with a fire-fighter?
-Charmed

Today Match officially graduated from the fire academy. He’s now a fireman, and I’m so unbelievably proud of him. I got really dressed up for his graduation, because I wanted him to be proud to have me on his arm. I was excited because the last two weeks of the gym have really paid off. And I didn’t even have to take diet pills to do it! Woohoo! I think it paid off because I got a few looks when I walked past the recruits into the auditorium. After the ceremony Match couldn’t stop kissing me and beaming at me. He whispered that I was the prettiest girl there. :-)

The graduation ceremony was really cool. They had a slide show with pictures of the recruits doing the various trainings and tasks required of a fireman. It was really interesting to see what it was that Match actually did for training, and it made me realize just how hard he worked. The keynote speaker talked about how becoming a firefighter and how they always put everyone else first, and become heroes. It really touched me that I’m with someone so dedicated to helping people. It’s true of Match too-if he sees an accident, he always wants to stop and see if he can help.

After graduation, we took a few family pictures and everyone congratulated Match. After pictures we headed to Match’s office to sign our lease together! After we signed papers, Match’s mom came up and hugged us both and told us how excited she was for us. She said that today was a really big day for us, the start of our future together. Not only are we getting our first place together, but Match is starting his career, and hopefully the start of our future.

For dinner we met up with Match’s parents, sister and his aunt at a really nice restaurant in town. We had one of those epic dinners that lasted three hours. It was a great meal, and the company was fun and entertaining as always. We got a bottle of champagne at the beginning of the night and toasted to Match’s achievement. It was a great way to kick off the beginning of our future.
