Our First New Year’s Eve

Ross: I am going to make myself happy.
Chandler: Do you want us to leave the room?
Ross: I am going to do one thing that I have never done before. That, my friends, is my New Year’s resolution.
Phoebe: Ohh… that’s a good one. Mine is to pilot a commercial jet.
Chandler: That’s a good one too, Pheebs. Now all you have to find is a planeload of people whose New Year’s resolution is to plummet to their deaths. –Friends

Happy New Year! Hope everyone had a fun New Year’s eve. Like I wrote before, Match and I were really sick, and unfortunately I got worse instead of better as the night progressed. We met up with Baker Chic and LAX and a few of their friends (who were unbelievably boring, even to a girl with a cold!) and tried to act lively. By 10, I was sneezing and sniffling uncontrollably and my eyes were all swollen and red, so we headed home.

We played gin rummy and drank tea, and we were in bed before midnight. Match did give me my midnight kiss and we said happy new year, but that was the extent of it. It was still far better than some of my new year’s eves in the past. Before we went to bed, Match and I were talking about how a lot of people were probably out at bars and parties, looking for someone to kiss at midnight, searching for someone to hook up with. Then he grinned and said, “I already found you!” So it was a nice night, and I promised to make it up to him next year.

Earlier that day we went car shopping for Match. He drives a really old Volvo right now, and I always make fun of his box car. He’s got his eye on a Subaru Impreza WRX, a fun little sporty car with a lot of horsepower. It’s an expensive car if bought new, but it’s no Ferrari, so he wouldn’t have to worry about expensive Ferrari parts. Still, he was nervous about buying a new car, so instead of going through with it, we went home to think it over.

The next day we went to Match’s parents house to have dinner with his parents and Aunt and Uncle. His dad served us Pozole, which is a traditional New Year’s dish for their family. Over dinner, we went around the table telling everyone our New Year’s resolutions. Match and I came up with a our lists earlier that morning, check it out:

Match:                                                    Date Girl:

make more money                            get in shape, lose weight
get real estate license                      pay off debt
start saving for a house                    start saving for a house
get car, build credit                          stick to my budget
get better at making budgets

After dinner we played a game of Cranium, first girls against guys and then couples. Sadly the guys pretty much annihilated us girls, but Match and I were in the lead for couples.:-) It was a nice and relaxing New Year’s, and while I did have a cold, and we didn’t get to go out and party, at I wasn’t nursing a hangover. 😉

Sorry to hear that you were sick on New Year’s Eve. I was too! I’ve been sick for a week now. Can’t wait to get over this awful sinus infection!

Best of luck to you and Match!
