Match’s Practical Exam

Alex: [To Meredith, about telling Izzie he failed his Medical Board Exam] If I tell Izzie, she’ll be nice about it, all supportive and optimistic—she might as well rip my nads off and turn them into earrings. -Grey’s Anatomy

Today marks the day for two big events for me and Match. First, Match has his practical exam today for fire academy. This is a make or break test, meaning if he fails even one part of it, he will fail the entire academy. It’s got us both pretty nervous, because I don’t think either of us could handle another round of academy.Poor Match was tossing and turning all night about it. I’m don’t think he got more than 5 hours of sleep. Second, tonight is my company’s Christmas party. We are heading to San Francisco tonight for dinner followed by drinks and karaoke with my coworkers. I have never brought a boyfriend to an office party before, so I’m really looking forward to the party. The only thing that scares me is if things don’t go well with Match’s exam. But I know that’s not going to happen. He’s worked so hard for this, and I know he’s going to do even better than he hopes. (more…)

Feeling Like Me Again
Nurse Roberts: You’ll be okay, Marshmallow.
Elliot: Laverne, do you call me “Marshmallow” because I’m soft and easily flattened?
Nurse Roberts: Well, yeah…. But, if it makes you feel any better, it’s also because you’re very white.                                                       -Scrubs

I just want to start by saying thanks for all the kind comments from my last post. I’m definitely feeling much better. In fact, on Wednesday night, after I wrote that post, Match and I had a great night and everything felt right. It’s almost like the minute I identified that I wasn’t acting like myself, I snapped out of it. The bad feeling disappeared and I remembered how lucky I am.

A Case of Self Doubt

When you’re little, night time is scary because there are monsters under the bed. When you get older the monsters are different. Self doubt, lonliness, regret. And though you may be older and wiser, you still find yourself scared of the dark. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy

This week for the first time since the beginning of my relationship with Match, I had some feelings of doubt. Not doubt about how I felt about him, but a minor lapse in confidence. It all started with an IM chat I had with Miss PHD on Monday. For those of you who have been reading since I started this blog, Miss PHD is a chic I’ve been friends with since grade school. She is also the girl that convinced me to join Match.com where I met my Match. She met her match on the site too, and she’s been unbelievably happy, until now. (more…)

Poker Night
[The gang is playing poker.]
Rachel: I will see you… and I’ll raise you. What do you say… want to waste another buck?
Ross: No, not this time. [he folds] So what’d you have?
Rachel: I’m not telling.
Ross: Come on, show them to me. [He reaches for her cards. Rachel covers them up]
Rachel: No!
Ross: Show them to me!
Rachel: Get your hands out of there! No!
Ross: Let me see! Show them!
Chandler: You know, I’ve had dates like this.                                                                 -Friends

Last night Match, his sister and I all went to Match’s friend’s house for a game of poker. Match’s friend was his old lacrosse buddy in high school and college, and is a really cool guy. LAX Guy has a girlfriend who is always baking something when we go visit. Baker Chic and LAX are constantly inviting us to hang out, and because of Match’s schedule we can rarely go. They are both a little bit younger than us too, and it seems like they have a lot more energy for staying up late compared to us. Hopefully when Match is done with fire academy we’ll have more time to hang out.

Tis the Season to Stress Out

When you walk through the door, does it feel like you are being slapped in the face by Christmas? -Marshall, How I Met Your Mother

This week I haven’t been myself, I’ve been an irritible little stressball. I’ve been sad about the Brazil stuff, worried about money, and stressed out about my family coming into town. My stepmom was making it feel like it’s my fault that the Brazil stuff didn’t work out. My stepmom wanted to stay at their house for the week of Christmas. Did I mention my stepmom is intrusive and completely pushy? Everything has just been weighing on me, and I’ve just been a mopey, stressed out little mess. I haven’t even gotten into the Christmas spirit like I normally do. Last night I think Match had enough of my blue mood and set out to snap me out of it.  (more…)
