Buying a House

And I was just gonna tell you that, this over here is our kitchen and this is our living room, and over there that’s the room where our kids could play. -Meredith, Grey’s Anatomy

Friday at work, while Match and I were IMing back and forth, we started talking about buying a house. It’s hard to ignore the digital signage out there boasting that houses are cheaper than ever due to the economy and recent foreclosures. So Match and I really want to be smart and invest. The thing is-the market is really great right now, and monthly mortgage payments are less than what we’re paying in rent! So we started talking, and before I knew it, he was asking his mom about it. She offered to give us a gift for the down payment, because she thinks real estate is a great investment. (more…)

Bowling Night
Chief Wiggum: Hey, I just heard about it over the squawk box. That’s some nice work, Simpson.
Homer: Yes, it is nice work.
Apu: Oh, Homer. I just heard about the little bundle of joy.
Homer: It’s true, the bundle is little, but I’m not in it for the money.
Moe: Hey Homer, way to get Marge pregnant!
Homer: This is becoming very abstract, but thank you, I do enjoy working at the bowling alley! -The Simpsons

This week has been super busy at work. I guess it’s the mad rush at the end of the year before the holidays. I was so happy when Friday finally came and we could have some much needed fun. This week Match finished his final exam, and finally completed his fire academy, yay! The only thing left is his live fire, which is today. (more…)

Magnetic Christmas

Murray: Don’t stand next to any big magnets.
Jemaine: Why would I stand next to big magnets, Murray?
Murray: Well, I don’t know what you do in your personal life. -Flight of the Conchords

Since the Christmas season is all about giving, I decided to do just that awhile back. My friend that lives in Michigan, whom I like to call the Stray Taker (because she has a soft spot for both animals and people down on their luck) has fibromyalgia. It’s this crazy condition where the person is in pain most of the time. It breaks my heart to hear when she’s having an attack, and I always wish there were something I could do. Then I heard about these cool magnetic bracelets, which are supposed to help treat those who suffer from aches and pains, especially associated with fibromyalgia. I decided it was worth a try, so I sent one out to ST.

The 100th

History can be messy and painful but it’s not our destruction. If we’re lucky, it’s our foundation. You just have to work your way through the mess to find what matters, to find the pieces of your past you still want to carry with you, and sometimes, if you have just the right view and just the right castle, you can build the foundation for your new history, all by yourself. -Marin, Men in Trees

Wow, I can’t believe that this is my 100th post on The Date Girl Diaries. I have to say, I’ve never had so much fun writing a journal before. I am so happy that other people seem to enjoy reading it too. One thing I love about this blog is it gives me a chance to look back on my life and reflect. Also, I have a horrible memory, so it is great for helping me remember things, such as what Match and I did last week. ;-)

The Office Christmas Party

(after Margaret had gotten drunk and thought she had sung karaoke) Actually, you just grabbed a skinny bald guy around the neck and started screaming into the top of his head. -Linda, Becker

Well as you can tell from Coast Sister’s comments on the last post, Match PASSED! He came home and he was all bubbly and excited. Then he asked me to pull a prank on his family, something I had no desire to do. I was begging him not to make me do it, but he insisted that it would just be so funny. So he makes me call his family, and they all get on speaker phone. Mom, dad, and Sister, and they all want to hear how his test went. Then Match made me say, “Well, he’s really upset because he didn’t pass.” (more…)
