Post Christmas Relief

Chandler: I remember my father dressed in the red suit, the big black boots and the patent leather belt, sneaking around downstairs. He didn’t want anybody see him, but he’d be drunk, so he’d stumble crash into something and wake everybody up.
Rachel: Well, that doesn’t sound like a very merry Christmas.
Chandler: Who said anything about Christmas? –Friends

Today I had to work, even though it was the day after Christmas, on a Friday. No one was on the freeway or at the office buildings near mine. Even in my own office, all of the computer desks were empty except for mine. In a way it was nice because I was able to upload lots of pictures from this crazy holiday week. I didn’t do much of anything, and my boss took pity on me and let me leave at noon.

Match and I had to head over to Napa for our fourth Christmas party. Yes, we had four Christmases. My family is divorced, and so is my stepmom’s. So we had Christmas eve breakfast with my dad’s side, Christmas eve evening party with my stepmom’s mom’s side, Christmas day with Match’s family, and today was spent with my stepmom’s dad’s side. Whew! And we didn’t even see my mom’s side. Can you imagine? Thank god Match’s parents are still together, because we would really be exhausted if we had two Christmases on his side.

As it was, we were on family overkill, and by late afternoon, we were ready to be out of my grandparents and back to our place. Don’t get me wrong; we had a great holiday. Christmas eve with my dad’s side was nice, even though it was a little bit uptight. My dad’s side is famous for their rigidness, and while I know they love me, they just aren’t family you can get comfortable and relax with.

Christmas eve night with my stepmom’s family was a good time, and Match got to be a part of our yearly family pictures. It felt good having him standing beside me for all the pictures. I’ve only brought one other boyfriend to the big Christmas eve party, so it was a big thing to have him there.

Before we left for the party, my brothers, cousin, Match and I, all played a really fun game of catch phrase. Catch phrase is one of the most fun games, and if you haven’t played it, I highly recommend it. It usually results in everyone getting really loud and excited, and a whole lot of laughing. My stepmom seemed to be having trouble with the fact that the rest of us were having fun, so she was having a bit of a brat attack, and kept nagging us all to stop playing and get ready. Mind you, we were all ready and she wasn’t…sigh. You see why I was on family overkill? Still, the party was a good time, and I was so proud to have Match by my side.

I will write more tomorrow about Christmas day, because I think it deserves it’s own blog entry. šŸ™‚
