Ted: Okay, we HAVE to get Lily out of that apartment. Her roommate is a raccoon.
Robin: I’d offer her my place, but I have dogs and she’s allergic.
Ted: Dogs? I live with her ex-boyfriend. I think she’s more allergic to that.
Robin: What about your place, Barney? I know it’s surrounded in mystery, but it’s gotta have a couch.
Barney: The Fortress of Barnitude?? No way.
Robin: Oh come on. She’s desperate.
Barney: Mmm, normally a prerequisite for the women I bring home, but pass –How I Met Your Mother
Last night Match and I went to Brazil and her husband Chill Guy’s house for dinner. We brought our dog Monkey to introduce to their pit bull to see how well they’d get along. You see, this dinner was much more than dinner with friends. We were in negotiations to become roommates.
So here’s the story: Brazil and I had lunch last Friday and got to talking about Match and I moving out of our apartment in January. We’re both trying to save money and we’re getting tired of having to fork over so much in rent every month. We both want to save up for a wedding and a house, and with California rent prices, it’s almost impossible.
So Brazil looks at me and says, “I’ve got a proposition for you.”Basically Brazil is going home to visit her family in actual Brazil from December till January. Then her hubby Chill guy is moving two hours away to go to school for 5 months, till June. Her proposition is that we housesit for them for December, and then we move in January, and don’t pay rent until February. Then from February till whenever we decide to move out, we’d be paying a really small amount of rent-just enough to cover Chill Guy’s rent while he’s in school. Between Match and I, we’ll each be saving over $400 a month! Plus we’d each be helping each other out, and we wouldn’t be stuck in a lease, or paying a deposit.
So we were all anxious for the dinner, to hammer out all the details and to make sure the animals got along. It will be a change to have a roommate again, especially a pregnant roommate, but I think it’s going to be a blast. I love that I can be there for my friend Brazil, and I love that Match and I are saving for our future. The first thing he said is that he’s going to put all the money into a savings account for a down payment on a house, and also a wedding. 🙂 I’m more than a little excited about that idea!
So we don’t move until January officially, but Brazil said we can start moving stuff in December, so that’s nice. I will have to take some pictures of the new place-it’s beautiful. They have a hot tub, pool table, and even a sharper image massage chair. There’s a yard and another dog for Monkey to run around with, and since Chill Guy is a botanist, there are plants everywhere. I’ve always loved their house, and I’ve even spent the night a few times. Ex Best Friend actually used to live in the room Match and I are moving into, haha. So we’ll see what the next few months bring-I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.
